AUDITIONS: "There's A Man Goin' Round Takin' Names"
Calling All Actors! We are excited to announce auditions for a powerful and moving new play, "There's A Man Goin' Round Takin' Names."

This innovative theatrical work revolves around the traditional spiritual, weaving together pivotal moments and voices from the Black freedom struggle. The play moves through time—from the distant past to the recent past to the present—as a series of speakers step forward to reveal their part of our history. https://www.mpactoday.com/auditions/theresamangoingroundtakingnames

We were in the path of totality for the solar eclipse this Monday, April 8th, but with the overcast sky, we couldn't see the sun. It was still a powerful experience, the way the darkness fell though.

We participated in a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration citizen science activity and tracked the temperature during the eclipse. It dropped a whole 10 degrees F.

We also kept watch to see what the chickens would do. They were pretty chill throughout (though the fact that we were all back there may have also changed their behavior a bit), but our main roo, Big Country, started crowing like it was morning once the light returned.

P.S. See these and more NASA citizen science activities on their website: https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/citizen-science/

How did you celebrate and/or view the eclipse this Monday, April 8, 2024?

Rochester home-schooled 12-year-old aids NASA, documents eclipse experience!

Josiah Tapp, a home-schooled Rochester 12-year-old, had an eclipse experience with his two siblings unlike that of most kids his age. He helped gather data for NASA as the moon came in front of the sun and turned Rochester fully dark for three minutes Monday afternoon.

As part of The Avenue Blackbox Theatre’s STEAM2Stage programs, which encourage early engagement with science, technology, math and other school subjects as well as promoting pathways to careers in the arts and in technology, Josiah is a paid sound operator for our final season production of ‘Steal Away” by Ramona King at The Avenue which opens Friday, April 12th. Visit avenuetheatre.org to learn more.

Go Josiah, Rehani and Manuel! 🖤🖤🖤
