Details and extras of the new Lyell branch murals by and on Instagram! Post 2/2

It's finished! We welcomed our new mural designed by and (on Instagram) at the end of last week, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. See the artist's statement below to learn more about the mural. We hope you will come by to see it in person, soon! The next post will include photos of the mural's details, as well as some surprise extras the artists kindly threw in. Post 1/2!

"This mural tells the story of two boys as they grow from childhood, to adolescence, and into adulthood. The moments are meant to represent feelings of love, safety, and comfort.

The light sources present in each vignette loosely reference the idea of sharing your light with others. That meaningful relationships with others, allows us to be our most authentic selves and to be loved for that.

Representation is important especially on outdoor artwork. All of the characters have subtle nods to different disabilities including hyper mobility, hearing loss, and diabetes. I also wanted to represent inter-generational connections and non-traditional familial structures.

The natural elements are inspired by flowers and creatures that can be found locally. These elements are a nod to the library garden and the upcoming addition of plants and trees to the library."
