First up on Batz’s tour of our spookiest spots: the resource room! Did you know that you’re welcome to borrow any of the books on the shelves? Batz opted for the king of spooky season himself: Edgar Allen Poe. He’s probably going to have to sleep with the lights on and his coffin open now.

We’re so happy to be welcoming a new faculty member to our department! Please say hello to Dr. Jennifer Billinson:

Dr. Billinson has a BA in Journalism from Indiana University, and an MA in Media Studies and a PhD in Mass Communication, both from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School. Her research focuses on the use of music and emotion as well as digital culture and social media. When she’s not working, she is still media-obsessed and spends her time reading, watching anything and everything Netflix tells her to, and scrolling through Tik-Tok for hours. But teaching is her favorite activity, and she’s thrilled to get to join such an amazing department!

Currently listening: Kendrick Lamar’s “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers.”

Currently reading: Godshot, Chelsea Bieker.

Currently watching: The Wilds Season 2.

Dr. Billinson will be teaching COMM .Q 101: Intro to Media Studies and COMM 345: Social Media in the fall.

Like many of you, Cashew had a lot of studying to do today. He suggests breaks for pets, treats, and naps every five minutes or so.

On this dreary day, let’s throw it back to last week’s sunshine and our End-of-Year Celebration!

NEW PUBLICATION: Dr. Gentile has a new article out in the most recent issue of _QED: A Journal in GLBTQ Worldmaking_. The article is an exercise in interdisciplinarity and was co-authored with her brother Nicolo Gentile, a Philadelphia-based artist and educator. Their work focuses on the concept of "generous uncertainty" as it characterizes sculptural experience as a mode of q***r literacy. Nicolo also visited Dr. Gentile's Q***r Lit and Literacies course this past semester to share both his artistic work and some of what's covered in the article. If you'd like to learn more, check out "Through the Kink-Scene Curtain: Sculptural Experience as Generous Uncertainty and Q***r Logics of Exchange."
