RIT in L.A. - Fall semester 2025
This fall 2025 semester study away program allows you to immerse yourself in the entertainment industry while earning academic credit, gaining hands-on experience, and networking with professionals in Los Angeles.
If you’ve been curious about using your RIT degree to work in the entertainment industry, a semester in L.A. would help you explore how your skills could be a good fit working for film/television, theme parks, production companies, visual effects companies, gaming studios, and other entertainment venues.
While in L.A., you would take tailored RIT classes based on your major (Film, Animation, Motion Picture Science, Game Design) or courses related to Transmedia Storytelling (all majors). You can also do an optional internship to get professional experience in the entertainment industry.
This is an ideal opportunity to live, study, and intern in L.A. with RIT's full support and structure through classwork, networking, excursions, and career coaching.

Max Mekker, a business major who studied abroad in Australia, shares three things travel has taught him in his recent study abroad blog post.
“Travel enhances confidence, independence, and freedom. It has shown me that I can navigate a foreign country, make new friends, and deal with challenging situations. I found out how much I know/don't know about the world. I was able to observe how I reacted in entirely new situations. When you realize how powerful you are, traveling becomes a transformative experience. ”

“As a Deaf individual deciding to study abroad for the first time, I learned a lot about accessibility from country to country. It was surprising and nice to see how smoothly my trip went, and I would love to be able to go again.
Once I set foot into the metro in South Korea, I was surprised to see a sign language interpreter on screen. It was something I had never seen before or had experienced, and I felt excited and seen. It was as if I was not invisible in the country.”

Elizabeth Barron, a Mechanical Engineering major who studied abroad three times while at RIT, shares tips for making friends abroad in her recent study abroad blog post.
“It can seem challenging to make friends abroad, but you have the world’s easiest opening line: “Hi, I’m studying abroad here from....” It is a great conversation starter! And no, not everyone will become your friend, but reach out to as many people as you can while traveling to make it as fun as possible. Instagram/social media is a wonderful way to stay in touch with people after you return home and remember all the fun you had while you were away.”

My first year at RIT was 2020...COVID. Everything was shut down, and besides a few kids in the sailing club, the only person I knew on campus was my roommate. Akhil Alavalapati an Electrical Engineering Tech major who studied abroad in Madrid, Spain shares tips for traveling solo in Europe in his recent study abroad blog post.
“The most important thing I learned was to slow down more. In the first few days of my solo travel, I blasted through sites and walked all over the city all day. I soon learned that, for me, the best way to travel was to savor the food, sights, and views. Spending an extra 30 minutes at a church or hilltop view makes you appreciate it more. ”

Ryan Noyes a Software Engineering/Japanese Language double major who studied abroad in Kyoto, Japan shares how sometimes getting lost can lead you to somewhere great in his recent study abroad blog post.
“My mistake, instead of turning into a disaster, led me to what became one of my favorite spots during my stay in Japan. I stepped out into the town and found a quiet slice of Japanese life. Making my way to the second-hand shop, I passed much of what makes the smaller towns of Japan a beautiful place to be. This spot would be one I would return to quite often. ”

Bari Hayden, a Graphic Design major who studied abroad in Croatia, shares how she balanced meals, money, and experiencing local food while abroad in her recent study abroad blog post.
“While we definitely spent the week saving money and cooking our own meals, we took advantage of the local cuisine on the weekends. Because we had created a balanced lifestyle, we could explore more during our trips on the weekends. We tried Croatian meats, wines, coffees, ice creams, seafood, and pizzas. We completely immersed ourselves in the food there, making the experience so much more meaningful. But because we could balance our diets (and bank accounts), it was so much more rewarding and reasonable.”

Zack Cordas, a Mechanical Engineering major who studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland, and Guatemala, shares how he fit in two study abroad experiences despite his original plans being derailed due to the COVID pandemic in 2020 in his recent study abroad blog post.
“The best thing I can recommend for anyone who wants to study abroad more than once is to stay as passionate as possible and not let anyone tell you that you already had your international experience, and that’s it. Thinking ahead and being exposed to other people who love to travel can help get the ideas flowing for getting back out there for another study abroad experience. The other best piece of advice I would give is to be flexible. I originally wanted to go to New Zealand instead of Ireland, but I had to be able to find a school that would offer the classes I needed.”
