In 1956, Miles Davis wanted to get out of his contract with Prestige Records so he could sign a lucrative new deal with Columbia Records.
To satisfy his remaining obligation of four albums, Davis took his legendary quintet into the studio for three marathon sessions, quickly recording enough material to fulfill his agreement.These lightning-fast sessions did not hurt the quality of the music;
instead, they captured his group at their absolute peak.
The records produced during these marathons are considered some of the greatest jazz albums in history:
Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet
Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet
Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet
Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet
Amazing stuff.

I am always telling my students when they are rushing whatever they are playing that it’s really important to practice a piece at
Every.
Single.
Tempo.
Practicing a tricky line SLOWLY ensures that it is learned correctly.
Gradually increasing the tempo over many weeks encourages proper technique and better accuracy as it becomes more automatic at the faster tempos.
It’s a worthy investment of your time if you want to have a more polished musical product.

Between all the string instruments in my studio and the drums/cymbals,
I have quite the natural reverb in my studio!
Would love to mess around with putting mics facing all of that while recording my Saxophone across the room from all of that and see what happens.
