RIT/NTID’s ASL Lecture Series presents “Numbers and the Mind: An Interactive Journey Exploring Numerical Cognition,” a lecture by Dr. Clifton Langdon on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 12 to 1 p.m. in the NTID’s CSD Student Development Center 1300/1310.

How does your mind know that "3" and "..." represent the same thing? Research shows that our early life ability to process numbers is a powerful predictor of childhood academic success. Langdon’s interactive presentation explores the ways we think about numerical information, both consciously and unconsciously. Join us for a straightforward exploration of how we bridge the gap between symbols and quantity.

Langdon is a developmental cognitive neuroscientist and assistant professor in the Department of Liberal Studies at NTID. His research focuses on numerical cognition across the developmental lifespan, specifically how young children begin to understand and process quantity. His work is dedicated to uncovering how these fundamental cognitive processes influence human learning and development.

This event is free and open to the public. Interpreters have been requested. If you plan to attend in person or via Zoom, please register.

For more information, contact Jeanne Behm, RADSCC coordinator and ASL instructor, at [email protected]. CEU credit will be granted for this activity. This Professional Studies level program is offered for .1 CEU at the Some Content Knowledge level.
