Our researchers are improving Alzheimer's and dementia awareness across the region. 💜

Maria Quiñones-Cordero, assistant professor of clinical nursing and part of our Elaine Hubbard Center for Nursing Research on Aging team, served as an invited panelist at an Alzheimer's Association, Rochester & Finger Lakes Region community event earlier this summer.

With over 100 people in attendance, the event and panel marked the launch of a pilot educational program designed to expand Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) awareness, knowledge, and resources among Rochester's Latino communities.

In the 1950s, both of MaryGrace Brizendine '26N's grandmothers pursued nursing degrees at — the start of a family legacy in healthcare that spans 3 generations.

Years later, MaryGrace realized the accelerated bachelor’s (ABSN) program would be the perfect place to build on the strengths of her background in law while transitioning to nursing.

Eating disorders affect millions — but most healthcare pros don’t get trained on them in school.

Our experts are changing the narrative, helping University of Rochester Medicine clinicians grow their confidence in detecting, managing, and discussing these conditions.

In the spring semester, nursing faculty and colleagues from Golisano Children's and the Western New York Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders introduced a simulation that's shaping future ED training.

Meredith Kells, an assistant professor of nursing and NP in adolescent medicine, developed the activity and hopes it will resonate both personally and professionally with recent and future participants.

"Weight stigma and fat-shaming can contribute not only to DSM-5 diagnosed eating disorders... but even the broader crisis of disordered eating behaviors. As individuals, healthcare providers are subject to that messaging too, and we can easily carry that into our appointments,” Dr. Kells said in our upcoming summer issue of Rochester Nursing magazine.
