Otter families, please consider taking this survey and letting the MDE know how things went for you.

Dear Families,

We hear you. In less than a day, we’ve received more than 100,000 responses to our Fall Planning Survey. The survey will close on June 30, 2020. If you haven’t completed it yet, you can do so here: http://sgiz.mobi/s3/2020-Parent-Distance-Learning-Feedback-Survey.

While this survey is just one factor in our planning around fall, please know that your experience is extremely important to us. We are reading all of your comments in the survey and on our social media channels. I am committing to you that we will use this information to inform our decisions and the guidance we provide to our schools for this fall and beyond.

As we plan for the 2020-21 school year, we are working with MDH to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and determine how to keep our students, their families and our staff healthy. While it is too soon to determine how students will return to school this fall, this week we will provide schools with guidance for three scenarios to help them plan.

β€’ Return all students to school buildings following the most current CDC and MDH guidelines.
β€’ Return students to school buildings implementing a hybrid model following the most current CDC and MDH guidelines.
β€’ No students return to school buildings. Implement a distance learning model.

Decisions around the fall may change as we learn more about which scenario will be in the best interest of public health, and specifically the health and safety of our school communities.

As we are monitoring the public health situation and working on our decision for the fall, we have also been working with the Wisconsin/Minnesota Comprehensive Center (WMCC) to hold group conversations to get feedback on distance learning. As a part of these conversations, we are meeting with students, families, educators and school staff from across the state.

I am so grateful to be an educator in Minnesota. Your commitment to your children and our students is humbling.

Together,

Mary Cathryn Ricker, NBCT
Commissioner of Education
