As another Wilmot Warrior Weekend begins, we're looking back at the community and the thousands of people who have come together in support of patients, survivors, families, caregivers, and cancer research.

Since the inaugural race in 2014, the fundraising initiative has grown to a full weekend of events. And year after year, the Rochester community has walked, ridden, cheered, remembered, celebrated, and rallied together. Thank you to every Wilmot Warrior who has been part of the journey and everyone continuing to move us toward a future with ever better treatments, outcomes, and more hope.

How can we address a public health problem if we don’t know its true size?

Our experts are raising concerns that deaths involving self-injury may be significantly undercounted in the U.S., particularly when drug overdose deaths are classified as accidental or of undetermined intent.

Researchers are calling for a more accurate way to measure these deaths to give public health experts a clearer picture of the problem and help them develop and evaluate prevention efforts.

From a Tupperware container in Rochester, to a nationwide training model. 🌎

Around ten years ago, orthopedic surgeon Gregg Nicandri, MD, and Ryan Koehler, a medical student at the time, began a project to teach the basics of arthroscopic (joint) surgery in an accessible, simple way.

What started with Tupperware, scrap wood, Velcro, and wine corks evolved into the FAST (Fundamentals of Arthroscopic Surgery Training) Workstation, now used by residency programs across the United States.

Innovation on the model continues in Rochester, as Nicandri and his colleagues establish benchmarks and standardize the model across the country.

As we look back during our Centennial, we're celebrating the doctors, nurses, researchers, staff, patients, families, and community members who have shaped cancer care at Rochester and the Wilmot Cancer Institute, and continue to push it forward today.

Gunner and his dad, Tom, visit patients and teams at Strong Memorial Hospital to bring comfort, companionship, and lots of cuddles. Their visits to the Heart Transplant patients are especially meaningful because Tom received his new heart here, too.

Join Gunner for a day while he does his favorite job. 💙

You may have seen Jessica Potter’s story on TikTok or read about her in "People"... because since her cancer diagnosis, she has shared her journey to raise awareness and build a community of support. 💛

Jessica was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at age 33 and received chemotherapy before joining a clinical trial at Wilmot Cancer Institute testing a new immunotherapy regimen.

Last month, Jessica celebrated her final treatment surrounded by family and friends. While follow-up scans and appointments remain, she was thrilled to close this chapter.
