One summer program helped her discover her future in Nuclear Medicine.

Before participating in Mayo Clinic's Career Immersion Program, Ilhaam Mohamed knew about only a handful of healthcare professions. Through the program, she explored a variety of careers and gained a deeper understanding of the many ways healthcare teams contribute to patient care.

Sessions focused on Nuclear Medicine and physical therapy captured her attention, introducing her to fields she had not previously considered. The experience ultimately inspired her to pursue Nuclear Medicine as a career.

To prepare for that future, Ilhaam gained clinical experience through phlebotomy and continued building the skills needed to work with patients. This fall, she will begin Mayo Clinic's Nuclear Medicine Program.

Her story demonstrates how pathways programs help learners explore possibilities, discover interests and take meaningful steps toward healthcare careers.

On August 14, Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Nuclear Medicine Technology Program celebrates the Class of 2026 and a half-century of excellence in nuclear medicine education. From three students in our first cohort (1976) to 14 in our 50th, what a journey!

🍕✨ A new year of mentorship is underway!

Our Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Radiography students recently kicked off another year of the Mentor Program with a Mentor/Mentee Pizza Party. Each incoming junior student is paired with a senior student who serves as a mentor, offering guidance through classes, clinicals, and everything in between.

We're proud to foster a supportive learning environment where students encourage one another, build lasting connections, and grow together throughout their educational journey.

Here's to another great year of learning, leadership, and mentorship!

🏥📸 First-year students in the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Radiography Program recently participated in a first-of-its-kind Operating Room Imaging Simulation at the Mayo Clinic Simulation Center.

Led by General Imaging team members Kari Thompson, Taylor Nelson, and Alana Ward, the hands-on experience placed students in the role of the Radiologic Technologist during a simulated lumbar fusion procedure. Working in a realistic OR environment, students practiced C-arm setup and positioning, communication with the surgical team, sterile field awareness, and radiation safety.

The simulation provided an engaging opportunity to apply classroom learning in a realistic clinical setting, helping students build confidence and deepen their understanding of OR workflow, team roles, and imaging procedures.

We're grateful to the team members who made this innovative learning experience possible and look forward to continuing the simulation with future Radiography students.

Juneteenth, celebrated each year on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Since becoming a federal holiday in 2021, it has served as a time to recognize this important moment in our nation's history. Mayo Clinic will honor Juneteenth by lighting its facilities in red, yellow and green this evening.

🎓 Congratulations to the 15 graduates of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Sonography Program in Minnesota and Florida!

This year, 12 students graduated from the Minnesota program and 3 from the Florida program, marking the culmination of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to patient care.

As they begin the next chapter of their careers, graduates will be serving patients and communities in a variety of settings, including Mayo Clinic Radiology and OB, regional healthcare organizations, medical school, and medical mission work.

We are proud of all they have accomplished and excited to see the impact they will make as sonographers and healthcare professionals.

🧲 Just two weeks into the program, our newest MRI students are already gaining valuable hands-on experience in the MRI environment.

During their first lab session, classroom concepts began to come to life as students explored MRI safety, patient screening, scanner operation, and workflow. Early exposure to real-world practice helps build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for future clinical success.

One of the things that makes the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences MRI Program unique is the opportunity to apply learning early and often through hands-on lab and clinical experiences. These experiences help bridge the gap between theory and practice while preparing students for success in the clinical setting.

We're excited to watch this cohort grow over the coming year as they develop into the next generation of MRI technologists.
