Mr. Belokur has meaningful experience in the local classical education community, both as a homeschooler and as a middle school teacher with St. John Bosco Schools. Additionally, he brings to Chesterton the perspective of a loving father and husband, an understanding of adolescent formation, and a sincere desire to help young people develop a relationship with Jesus Christ, along with a deep love of the Catholic faith. He understands the necessary partnership between school and family, and the daily work of supporting scholars both academically and spiritually. As CAR seniors nail down plans for the fall, Jane W. will head to the University of Maryland with a scholarship that covers full tuition and housing.

Jane was awarded the Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies. She was nominated for the scholarship by the Oak Hill Country Club, where she has caddied for four years.

The scholarshipโ€™s selection process included a number of requirements, such as excellent academics, a strong caddie record, and outstanding character.

For more than 90 years, the Western Golf Association has overseen the Evans Scholars Program, which is among the nationโ€™s largest privately funded scholarship programs. It is named in honor of legendary amateur golfer Chick Evans, whose charitable legacy was to help send deserving caddies to college.

Our pilgrims have been blessed with a wonderful tour guide, Peter. Pictures include Peterโ€™s discussing:

โ€ข The Pieta - Michelangeloโ€™s first masterpiece.
โ€ข Repeating patterns on the ceilings and floors and how they mirror each other- with more about the inverted crucifixion of St. Peter, and instances where Heaven and earth touch.
โ€ข The Death of Sapphira and the extensive use of mosaic stones in St. Peterโ€™s Basilica.
โ€ข The Burial Monument of Pope Alexander VII - Berniniโ€™s final masterpiece.

We used some free time to climb to the top of the St. Peterโ€™s Basilica rotunda dome.

In the afternoon we attended a Good Friday Service at Basilica de Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, which included veneration of fragments of the true cross.

At dinner tonight the rule was - sit next to someone from a different school. Happy to say, our group is VERY social - they have no problem making friends.

More photos to come.

What a day! Our third day in Rome, Holy Thursday, the start of the Triduum was incredible. We started early, and took buses to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major.

Our tour guide is brilliant. We heard about the summer snow miracle when the Basilica was being built, and inside: the Relics of the Manger of Jesus, Tombs of Bernini, Pope Francis & multiple others, and the Salus Populi Romani- made by/divinely inspired through St Luke.

Next - and essentially around the corner- we visited Basilica di Santa Prassede to see incredible mosaics, and a segment of the pillar Jesus was bound to when scourged.

From there we took the buses to the oldest church in Rome- Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran. We learned that Roman Emperor Constantine approved its building in 314 AD within a year of the Edict of Milan- 'legalizing' Catholicism.

Across the street we prayerfully ascended the Scala Santa. The Stairs were the steps leading up to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem and were brought to Rome by Saint Helena in the fourth century.

All that before lunch- delicious and shared together with the whole tour group.

We took a walking tour of Trastevere after lunch and saw The Basilica di Santa Maria- picture has our student in front of the door marked with words from Psalm 118- loosely translated- this is door of the Lord- the just shall enter through it.

We visited the Basillica di Santa Cecilia- built on the site of her former home. She was martyred inside.

We finished up at the church of Santa Maria della Scala where we had Holy Thursday Mass and opportunities for confession.

We linked up with Chesterton Buffalo for a Holy Thursday 7- Churches pilgrimage within a pilgrimage. They are another great group and it was good to connect a little more with new friends.

Finally- dinner and bed (exhausted) onto tomorrow!

The first day in Rome was busy and fun, as pilgrims began with a short walk from their hotel to St. Peterโ€™s Square. Visits to European cities can mean lots of walking, and after St. Peterโ€™s Square, it was up the Vial della Conciliazione, past the Castel Santโ€™ Angelo, over the Tiber River on Ponte Santโ€™ Angelo, and then back. After a Rosary at Chiesa di Santo Spirito in Sassia, it was dinner and then Mass at Santa Maria in Traspontina.

More walking, with a visit to Sant'Agostino Church with St. Monica Chapel. After a nice lunch, pilgrims spent three hours in the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel.
