We've all been there...your child is tearful at drop off and you walk away feeling terrible. But what happens next in the classroom? How does the child settle into the routine of the day after a rocky start? How do children move from tears everyday to joyful entry at arrival?
This article illustrates how all aspects of the Montessori environment (the other children, the materials and routine, and the adults) provide predictability, consistency, and purposeful activity to ground the child and support their developing emotional regulation.

We have had so many children join our community in the new year! We welcome our new families and are so happy you've joined us!
Some children are brand new to our school, and some have moved up to a new classroom. The structure of our program is unique in that there is continuity between the Nido to toddler to primary classrooms:
-Similar activities exist in each classroom, providing orientation and engagement when a child moves up.
-Often, the adults in the next classroom are familiar, creating a sense of security in a new environment.
-The connections that are formed with peers, whether new, older role models, or familiar faces from their previous classroom, are the touchstone in a new community. The established children are a grounding and empathetic presence for the new child as they orient to the environment, often providing lessons, support and companionship. These connections are the most powerful way that a child integrates into a new community, and a foundational principle of a Montessori environment: Those youngest children learn, grow, and gain confidence throughout their time in the community, and eventually become the 'elders' for the next generation of move ups.

"It is movement that interests the child in music, and it is by movement that the very tiny child can arrive at understanding music with considerable delicacy."
-Maria Montessori, "The Montessori Approach to Music"
