RCSD teacher, and creator of the East High Vision Care program, Logan Newman came to the Winton Branch this week to pick up the eyeglasses and cases that you've donated. This program teaches students the skills that they need to work as opticians or continue their studies in other optical fields. East High students have made thousands of pairs of glasses for kids who otherwise might struggle to learn because of uncorrected vision problems. The Winton Branch Library will continue to collect used eyeglasses for this valuable program.

Juneteenth marks the day when news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Today, Juneteenth serves as a time to reflect on our nation's history, honor the resilience and achievements of African Americans, and recognize the ongoing pursuit of freedom, opportunity, and equality for all.

As we commemorate this important day, we encourage our community to learn, reflect, and celebrate the stories, contributions, and cultures that continue to shape our country.

Our Howlers proudly represented our school and shined at the annual Nick Zona Track Meet, joining more than 1,000 RCSD student-athletes from across the District in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance!

This long-standing tradition honors Nick Zona, a dedicated educator and athletic leader who spent his career supporting Rochester’s youth.

It’s Friday and there is so much to celebrate! ✨

Last evening our K -Pop Math & Literacy Game Night was an incredible success!

With over 200 students and families in attendance, the building was filled with games, dancing, laughter, learning and nonstop fun!

A huge thank you to Ms. Rivera and the committee members and volunteers who worked so hard to bring this event to life.

We are grateful to our families and students for showing up, participating, and helping School 28 shine so bright.

Yesterday, our students had an exciting and educational visit from Firefighter Cruz! 🔥

Students learned important fire safety tips, explored the fire truck, and even had the chance to climb inside and see it up close. 🚒

One of the most valuable lessons was helping students feel safe and comfortable around firefighters during emergency situations. 🚨

Families — don’t forget to check your smoke detector batteries regularly and review fire safety plans at home. 🏠

So proud of some of our 6th grade Howlers for using their voices to create change at our school! After surveying students across the building, they discovered many classmates wanted healthier lunch options they would actually enjoy eating. Our students analyzed the data, developed a plan, and proudly shared their work at last week’s reception. We can’t wait to share their ideas with classrooms in the coming days. Student voice matters, and these students are leading the way!
