RIT SME

We are a group of interdisciplinary students who are working towards the common goal of promoting manufacturing.

SME is an organization for individuals, students, educators and companies involved in all facets of manufacturing. Founded in 1932, it is dedicated to advancing and educating the manufacturing industry. This is accomplished through a variety of tactics and outlets including events, media, membership, training and development, and an education foundation. SME focuses its efforts on several areas of manufacturing: aerospace and defense, energy, medical and vehicles.

Artificial Intelligence in robotics will be the next cotton gin for Manufacturing. Today, robots hardly think for themselves. They are trained by engineers over the course of weeks or months so that they can effectively complete a task. AI advancements will drastically improve this process, and it is exciting to see Google working towards a solution.

Google's robots teach themselves to do things and it's terrifying Google's robotic arms have been teaching themselves how to do things without any pre-programming.
