We hope you are doing well and social-distancing! We also hope you can find the time to join us to hear from Elizabeth McDade from RENEW to learn how you can contribute to local climate solutions.

Cutting Energy Costs, Reducing Carbon Emissions, and Improving Home Health & Safety

By braiding resources and working collaboratively, Rochester ENergy Efficiency & Weatherization (RENEW) (https://www.racf.org/collaborations/rochester-energy-efficiency-and-weatherization/) and their community partners have invested over $3.0M into the homes of hundreds of homeowners in our area. This work is making homes safer, healthier, and an average of 20% more energy efficient. RENEW is calculating energy cost savings and carbon emission reductions, and have created an opportunity for individuals/institutions to offset their personal/professional carbon footprint and invest those offsets locally. RENEW’s work transforms neighborhoods, builds health and wealth, prevents home foreclosure, and creates improved mental and physical health outcomes for families across our community. For information on the Climate Fund (a local option for offsetting your emissions from travel, heating, electricity use, etc.) see:

It is National Pack Your Own Lunch Day! Here's some tips on doing it sustainably from the NYS DEC.
THE REUSABLE LUNCH BOX
Carry your lunch in a lunch box, a
reusable bag or at least a brown bag made
from recycled paper.
Try a reusable container for your
drinks.
Use reusable containers for your
sandwiches and desserts.
Use reusable forks, spoons and knives
or wash plastic ware and use it again.
Buy desserts in bulk and make individual
servings using reusable containers. It
costs less and reduces your garbage. Or
buy desserts that don't use packaging
(apples) or have their own packaging
(bananas).
If you use a disposable lunch, you will
make between 4 - 8 ounces of garbage
every day, that's 45 - 90 pounds of
garbage per year! So give a reusable
lunch a try.
For more information go to www.dec.ny.gov and search for Reusable Lunch Box.

Friday, 2/28/20 is National Skip the Straw Day. Find out why, and how you can help. It's easy!

“No Straw Please” It’s International Straw Free Day - Blue Ocean Network Straws have been around for a very long time! Pretty much ever since humans found hollow reeds and “Eureka” realized that they could blow through them. Or just as easily, suck and slurp, making the reed a handy tool. But today things have gotten out of hand. Every day, worldwide, we consume 500 ...
