🎉 Celebrating Dr. Marie Cianca! 🎉

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education recently came together to celebrate the retirement of Dr. Marie Cianca, Associate Professor in the Executive Leadership Doctoral Program, and to recognize her remarkable career and contributions to Fisher. ❤️💛

For 19 years, Dr. Cianca has been a dedicated member of the School of Education faculty, teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. For the past 17 years, she has devoted her work to the Executive Leadership Doctoral Program (DEXL), where she also served as Program Chair and guided countless doctoral candidates throughout their journeys.

Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Cianca served as Dissertation Chair for 49 candidates who successfully defended their dissertations. She also helped found Rochester’s first all-boys charter school, University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men, serving on its Board of Trustees for 12 years.

Throughout her career at Fisher, Dr. Cianca secured and implemented $170,000 in grant funding to support leadership development and scholarships for DEXL doctoral candidates. She has also contributed extensively through research, professional publications, peer-reviewed journals, and service on numerous University and School of Education committees.

Before joining Fisher, Dr. Cianca dedicated more than 30 years to education, serving as a teacher, principal, executive director of student services, and Chief of Schools in the Rochester City School District, as well as working for the New York State Education Department.

Dr. Cianca’s commitment to education, leadership, scholarship, and her students has made a lasting impact on Fisher and the many educators and leaders she has mentored throughout her career.

Congratulations to the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education! The School earned a full seven-year accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, the sole nationally recognized accrediting body for educator preparation which is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. That’s a wrap on EnCompass Grows 2026 at St. John Fisher University! This summer, K-5 students from the Rochester area teamed up to compete in the Amazing Race – Nature Edition.

Some of our favorite moments from this summer include:
Exciting field trips and adventures outdoors—shout out to Wild Wings Nature Center, Bushnell’s Basin Fish Hatchery, Seneca Park Zoo, Beekeeper Loni Butlin, and everyone who brought this year’s theme to life!
The Rita’s Water Ice Patio Party, hosted by President and Mrs. Rooney.
A visit to the Buffalo Bills Training Camp (and quite a few player signatures).
Participating in the Amazing Race to represent the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education.

We love having EnCompass Grows on campus to energize us during the quiet summer months. Thank you to the educators, staff, and students for another great year!

🌟 Spotlight On: Matt Leeber 🌟

Meet Matt Leeber, an undergraduate Adolescent History major, who is gaining valuable experience both in and out of the classroom!

Through his clinical placements at Webster Schroeder High School, Gates Chili Central School District, and Bay Trail Middle School in Penfield, Matt has developed a strong foundation in education and explored a variety of classroom settings.

From the baseball field to the classroom, Matt is building the skills and experiences needed to make a positive impact as a future educator. We look forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the years ahead! 👏

🌿☀️ Summer fun is in full swing in the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. School of Education with Encompass K–5! 🌎🏃

Our Encompass K–5 Summer Program is taking students on an unforgettable adventure with a nature-themed curriculum inspired by The Amazing Race! Throughout the summer, campers have been exploring the outdoors, solving challenges, working together, and learning through hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and teamwork.

This week brought an extra special surprise as students had the opportunity to meet St. John Fisher University President Gerard Rooney and Mrs. Rooney! The visit was filled with smiles, laughter, and a memorable game of musical chairs with President Rooney!
