All cello, all the time! The Eastman Cello Institute is an intensive summer experience designed to develop strategies for learning and mastering the cello.
The Eastman Cello Institute is a three- week intensive course designed to help students develop strategies for learning and mastering the cello. Group classes focus on techniques for healthy playing and longevity at the instrument, as well as techniques specific to solo and orchestral repertoire. Students receive lessons with each faculty member and have opportunities to perform in bi-weekly performance classes and weekly recitals.

Just had our first composer workshop with Jon Silpayamanant, helping Eastman Cello Institute students with their interpretations of his new piece (Suzuki book 5-6 level) for solo cello based on Thai Classical music. Great opportunity for students to work directly with a composer on new music while the piece is being workshopped. If you’re looking for an intensive, student-centered summer experience, check out the 2023 Eastman Cello Institute!
We offer a variety of performance opportunities from solo recitals to cello ensembles, which take place in venues like gorgeous Kilbourn Hall. Participants also receive multiple weekly lessons, technique classes, masterclasses, and workshops on topics ranging from musicians health to improvisation.
