We recently hosted the 2026 Western New York Structural Biology Collaborative Summer Symposium at our health sciences campus, bringing together researchers, trainees, and partners from across the state – Buffalo, Syracuse, Binghamton, Potsdam, Cortland, Manhattan – and Canada, too!
The day was full of scientific talks, poster sessions, and networking focused on cutting-edge structural biology. It also spotlighted emerging leaders in the field through trainee poster and talk awards.
“There is really great science happening here, and we want to support and grow this community of researchers by helping people build connections and giving them the opportunity to learn from others in the field,” said organizing committee member and assistant professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics Makaía Papasergi-Scott. “Ultimately, we want to create a place and a space for forming collaborations that will grow our regional expertise and move discoveries in cancer, infectious diseases, RNA biology, and drug discovery forward.”
Thanks to the rest of the organizing committee, including Monica Pillon, Michael Malkowski, Mitchell O'Connell, Joseph Wedekind, Thomas Grant, Andrew Flyak, and Sozanne Solmaz, the team at our URochester Medicine - Center for Advanced Research Technologies, the speakers, and all attendees who made this year's symposium a success!
