Gates Generations Generations Child Care, serving Rochester since '93, nurtures kids through curiosity and play.

Our Gates Child Care Center first opened its doors in 1993 and moved to its current location in 2008. The center is not only spacious and open, but enjoys multiple outdoor spaces and playgrounds as well. The large outdoor space makes spending summers at this location exciting. Our Gates center is particularly unique because in addition to child care, we have our elder care at this facility as well! Children can walk down the hall to visit with the grandmas and grandpas and we often incorporate intergenerational activities into our schedule. Gates is located at the Former Washington Irving Elementary School. For children within the Gates-Chili School District, Generations offers a free Universal Pre-K Program.

What does STEAM actually look like for a young child?

It can be much simpler than you might think.

STEAM happens when children investigate something they're curious about, build a structure, sort objects, create a drawing, count what they find, or test an idea to see what happens.

The important part isn't making the activity complicated. It's giving children opportunities to explore, ask questions, make connections, and discover things for themselves.

That's the beauty of STEAM in early education: learning can happen through the experiences children are already naturally drawn to.
