One of the very first things our beginner and intermediate fencers learn is proper fencing position. A strong en garde stance is the foundation for everything that comes after it. Footwork, balance, speed, attacks, and defense all start with good posture and bent knees.

It may not be the most glamorous part of fencing, but it's one of the most important. Learning to stay balanced and ready to move helps our fencers build the skills they'll use every time they step onto the strip.

So if you hear coaches reminding fencers to "bend those knees" for the hundredth time, there's a good reason!

One of our favorite things about Seacoast Fencing Club is that our athletes can work hard and have fun at the same time.

Between drills, lessons, competitions, and games, there's always room for a laugh. Our junior assistants help create a welcoming environment where younger fencers can learn, grow, and enjoy being part of the club.

And yes, that "hat" is actually an exercise cone from one of our training activities. Sometimes the best moments happen when practice equipment gets repurposed for a little silliness.

After all, if you're not occasionally wearing a training cone on your head, are you really having fun?

Seacoast Fencers Show Club Spirit On and Off the Strip!

Last week, a dedicated group of Seacoast Fencing Club members joined more than 4,000 participants at the Gourdy's Pumpkin Run. Our fencers tackled the 5K course and earned the coveted Gourdy's finisher medal, event shirt, and of course, a pumpkin!

Not content with just one challenge, about one-third of our team took on the Tough Pumpkin Challenge, carrying a pumpkin for the entire 5K and earning a second medal for their efforts. That's the kind of determination and perseverance we love to see from our fencers!

After crossing the finish line, we celebrated together with some well-earned apple c***r and plenty of smiles.

At Seacoast Fencing Club, we know that athletic development happens in many ways. Events like Gourdy's Pumpkin Run are a fun opportunity to build endurance, challenge yourself, and spend time with teammates outside the fencing salle.

We hope even more club members will join us next year as we kick off October with this fun cross-training tradition!

Fencing is fun... but so are games!

At Seacoast Fencing Club, you'll often find our fencers laughing, running, and playing games during practice. While it may look like we're just having fun (and we are!), those games are carefully chosen to reinforce important fencing skills.

Whether we're working on footwork, distance control, reaction time, strategy, balance, or decision-making under pressure, games provide a way to learn and practice these concepts in a way that keeps athletes engaged and excited.

Some of the best learning happens when fencers are focused on the challenge instead of worrying about getting everything perfect. Before they know it, they're building skills that transfer directly to the strip.

Because fencing is serious business... but learning it doesn't always have to be.

Think fencing is just for kids? Think again!

At Seacoast Fencing Club, adults of all ages are welcome to start their fencing journey. New adult fencers begin in our Beginner and Intermediate classes before moving on to our Adult Training Practices.

Whether you're looking for a new challenge, a unique way to stay active, or a sport that engages both your body and mind, fencing has something to offer.

Fencing helps improve balance, coordination, agility, focus, and strategic thinking, all while providing a full-body workout that's anything but boring. It's also a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills, and be part of a supportive community.

No prior experience? No problem. You're never too old to learn something new, and fencing is a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Come discover why so many adults are picking up a sword and stepping onto the strip for the first time!

Seacoast Fencers: Don't forget to sign up for our upcoming Armory Clinic!

If you plan to attend and want to build your own weapon, please register by this Thursday so we can order the necessary parts and supplies.

Not interested in building a weapon? You are still welcome to attend at no cost to learn about weapon maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.

Every fencer eventually runs into equipment issues, whether it's a loose tip, a broken wire, a failed shim test, or a weapon that suddenly stops working right before a tournament. Learning how your weapon works and how to perform basic maintenance can save you time, money, and frustration, while helping you stay on the strip instead of sitting out waiting for repairs.

Prices for weapon components are listed on the registration form. We hope to see you there!

At Seacoast Fencing Club, we don't let obstacles keep us off the strip.

When one of our teen fencers recently suffered an injury that prevented them from using their dominant hand, they didn't sit on the sidelines. Instead, they borrowed a left-handed setup and got right back to fencing with their non-dominant hand.

Was it awkward at first? Absolutely. Was it challenging? Without a doubt.

But fencing teaches adaptability, resilience, and problem-solving. Sometimes the lesson isn't about scoring touches. It's about finding a way forward when things don't go according to plan.

We're proud of the determination and positive attitude our fencers bring to practice every day. Nothing keeps us down for long.
