This week, we celebrate Read Across America, a foundation of our youth's academic success.

Today we're reviewing our Code of Conduct - what suggestions or questions do you have to help ensure academic success?

A big "THANK YOU!" to all of you who supported me with your votes and volunteer efforts to give me another three-year term on the Greece School Board. I take this role very seriously because our children are so important to us as families and as a community.

The challenges faced by our students, parents and teachers are significant. Violence in our schools is far too prevalent, and it has a direct, negative impact on our students and our teachers – physically, emotionally and educationally. We have a lot of work ahead of us to make our schools safer and better. I have been, and I remain, committed to that effort for all of you. But make no mistake: just as I could not win re-election without your help, we cannot fix our schools without your help.

I also want to thank my friend and school board colleague, Megan Ferra, and our friend Shaunna Smith for their spirited efforts in this campaign. They are fighters who also care so deeply for our children.

Finally, congratulations to Anna Maria Falzerano and Monica Seaman, who will be joining us on the board. They and Jenne LaPlaca were gracious competitors, and I appreciate their desire to do good for our schools. I look forward to working with Anna Maria and Monica. Like us, they campaigned for safer schools, and I plan to help them deliver on that goal.

Research shows that this program is not a deterrent. Most school bus camera tickets are thrown out because of inaccurate citations against drivers who weren’t involved. Approximately 56% of school bus camera citations are thrown out by the judge when contested in court. In some cases, 90% of tickets on backlog have been ripped up. 40% of the collected revenue goes to the company; the rest goes to the county. We did our research and voted accordingly. Our goal is real safety for our kids.
