Oakland University generated more than $1.9 billion in net new economic activity across Michigan in fiscal year 2024 — more than doubling its economic impact over the past five years.

According to an independent analysis by Anderson Economic Group, OU supported nearly 6,500 jobs statewide and generated $316 million in state tax revenue — nearly 27 times what the university received in state appropriations that year. The university's 80,000-plus working alumni earned a combined $5.9 billion, with more than $1 billion of that directly attributable to the value of an OU degree.

Oakland graduates don't just leave with a diploma. They stay in Michigan, earn above-average salaries, and strengthen the communities around them. That's what a university looks like when it's working.

Recent 2026 MSW Graduate Dunya Kilano doing macro social work stuff!

Today, we went to Lansing.

Our Director of Operations, Dunya Kilano, and our longtime community partner, Mario Bastianelli of the Sterling Heights Police Department, stood before the House Judiciary Committee in support of House Bill 5453 — a bill that would give communities a real way to connect people struggling with addiction to treatment and support, instead of moving straight to charges.

We believe what we’ve always believed: addiction is a medical condition, not a moral failure. And when law enforcement, treatment providers, and community organizations work together, people get a real chance to change their lives.

Thank you to Rep. Lightner for sponsoring this bill, to the Sterling Heights Police Department for showing what true partnership looks like, and to everyone standing in this work alongside us.
