Malala Yousafzi is a Pakistani activist for female education. On October 9, 2012, Malala was shot by a Taliban gunman during her ride home on a bus after taking an exam in Pakistan's Swat Valley.
From her recovery, on her 16th birthday she traveled to the United Nations in New York where she called for worldwide access to education. During her address she stated, “Malala Day is not my day. Today is the day of every woman, every boy, and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights.” In 2014, Yousafzi received a Nobel Peace Prize and became the youngest Nobel laureate 🏆
Yousafzi is a graduate in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Oxford. Malala is recognized as a global symbol of peaceful protest, and continues to stand in the fight for children’s right to education.

Today we’re celebrating World Malala Day! 🗺🧡
The United Nations (UN) designated July 12 to be marked as “Malala Day” to honor the continuing work of Pakistani activist, Malala Yousafzai, and her fight for girls’ right to education which has had an effect on countries worldwide. This world recognition day was established in 2013 and is used as an opportunity to call on world leaders to ensure compulsory and free education for every child.
As a global initiative we strive to create opportunities for young leaders across the world by exposing them to the many ways in which they can leverage themselves.
We encourage you all to observe Malala Day by donating to the Malala Fund, learning more about countries where education is restricted for young girls, and more.
FunFact: World Malala Day is celebrated on July 12 of every year on Malala Yousafzai’s birthday 🎉
