Today is Advocacy Day at Goodwill on the Hill, where Goodwill leaders head to Washington DC to advocate for our community programs and help further our mission! Pictured is our President and CEO, Jen Lake, along with leaders from Goodwill WNY.

At Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, our mission is to elevate people, community, and planet for a GOOD today and better tomorrow.

One way we are working to further this mission is to open our planned Excel Center, a tuition-free high school for adults that will help students complete their high school education and gain career credentials.

In the face of systemic racism, Black teachers, artists, scientists, and leaders have been innovating and changing the course of American history for the better. Unfortunately, these achievements were often overlooked because of discrimination due to the color of their skin. This is why we celebrate Black History Month every February, a time dedicated to recognizing the achievements of Black Americans.

Bringing the Excel Center to Rochester requires a change in the law, and we are working hard to make that a reality. In 2022, legislation was introduced by Senator Cooney and Assemblyman Bronson (S3473/A1004) that put forth the following:

In order to create an Excel Center, the following legislation must be passed: An act to amend the education law, in relation to the creation of an adult high school career accelerator demonstration project, that leads to the award of a NYS high school diploma.

Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an American Baptist minister, civil rights activist, and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. To honor his legacy, we work for a more just and equitable society, remembering the value of persistence, the need for community, and the importance of loving one another.
