OU DPT PY II students wrapped up their lecture on aerobic exercise by putting their knowledge into action! Students participated in a 50-minute aerobic exercise session featuring five components: a warm-up, continuous exercise, circuit training, interval training, and a cool-down. This hands-on experience allowed students to apply classroom concepts while exploring different types of exercise training!

⚠️NEW FACULTY ALERT⚠️

Dr. Andrew Meszaros joined the OU Department of Human Movement Science over the summer as an Associate Professor. He is a PT with a PhD in Exercise Science from the University of Iowa. With expertise in Anatomy and Neuroscience, Dr. Meszaros will be helping in the OU DPT cadaver lab and imaging course. His main focus will be to collaborate with Exercise Science, Engineering, and other faculty within the Human Movement Science PhD program, to develop custom-made wearable devices that reduce risk of movement-related injuries. Welcome to OU, Dr. Meszaros!!!!

⚠️NEW FACULTY ALERT⚠️

Bryan Kuhlman, PT, DPT, DScPT, OMPT has been a Golden Grizzly through and through with his educational background and now as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Dr. Kuhlman has an abundance of knowledge in Musculoskeletal Examination, Manual Therapy Intervention, Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy, Clinical Reasoning and Differential Diagnosis. He currently teaches PT 8622: Advanced Musculoskeletal Diagnosis and Intervention and will be teaching PT 7611: Foundations in Musculoskeletal Examination and Intervention next semester. Dr. Kuhlman enjoys spending time with his family and traveling, particularly exploring new places and hiking trails around the world. He enjoys staying active through running and biking and is involved in coaching and participating in sports with his children. Welcome back to OU, Bryan!! We are lucky to have you!

⚠️NEW FACULTY ALERT⚠️

Stacy Zousmer, PT, DPT, PCS, is a new Visiting Assistant Professor for the OU DPT program and a board-certified pediatric clinical specialist with 27 years of experience in pediatric outpatient and school-based practice. Dr. Zousmer spends most of her waking hours in schools; when she’s not teaching at Oakland University in the School of Health Sciences, she serves as a PT supporting young children in a local Early Childhood Special Education program. She currently teaches PT 3020: Physical Therapy as a Profession, PT 6511: Educational Interventions in Physical Therapy, PT 8350: Educational Theory and Practice, and PT 7411: Patient Management. She also serves on OU’s Interprofessional Education Task Force, and as the Faculty Advisor for OU Best Buddies. Whether working with preschoolers or teaching DPT students, Dr. Zousmer's greatest reward is helping students reach their fullest potential and build bright futures. We welcome you with open arms and are so grateful to have you on our team!!

Congratulations to OUDPT alumna and current PhD student in Human Movement Science, Megan Rousso, PT, DPT, on the publication of her article, “Fall Risk in Older Adult Caregivers,” in Home Healthcare Now.
Megan’s work highlights the often-overlooked fall risk of older adult caregivers and the need to consider caregiver safety as part of comprehensive fall prevention efforts.
We are proud to celebrate Megan’s scholarship and her continued contributions to fall prevention research at Oakland University!

This week in Dr. Stacy Zousmer’s PT 8350 Educational Theory and Practice, PYIII students shared their knowledge, experience, and creativity by developing quick-reference handouts for supporting patients with diverse abilities. Their presentations highlighted tools and tips to make healthcare more inclusive and patient-centered, with strategies for PTs to better communicate, teach, and connect with individuals and families affected by hearing & visual impairments, dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, autism spectrum disorder, aphasia, mental illness, and ADHD.
👏 Our future PTs are well-prepared to put accessible and inclusive care into practice!
