Oakland University Physical Therapy Program The Physical Therapy Program in the School of Health Sciences offers pre-professional, professional and post-professional degrees.

The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in Pre-physical Therapy is designed for students who want to prepare to apply for graduate programs in physical therapy. The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is a professional graduate program which prepares individuals for licensure and entry into the physical therapy profession. The physical therapy program also offers post-profess

ional graduate certificates in orthopedic manual physical therapy, oncology rehabilitation, and teaching and learning for rehabilitation professionals as well as a diverse selection of post-professional courses. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the Department of Human Movement Science is an academic doctorate to prepare leaders, educators and researchers. This degree is designed for physical therapists, exercise science and movement science professionals interested in obtaining the knowledge and skills to produce relevant research in human movement science.

Does the population you work with have a high risk of falls? The course “Physical Therapist-Led Falls Prevention: Evidence, Barriers, and Opportunities in Community-Based Care” focuses on identifying and addressing balance impairments and fall risk in community-dwelling adults, emphasizing the physical therapist’s role in early detection and prevention. It reviews evidence-based falls prevention strategies and highlights how PTs can assess balance deficits, use standardized measures, evaluate risk factors, and design individualized interventions to promote safe aging at the APTA Michigan conference in Kalamazoo.

This bipartisan legislation will make It easier for licensed PTs from participating compact states to practice In Michigan, Improving access to PT services and allowing for greater workforce flexibility! This achievement represents years of advocacy and collaboration among physical therapists, state legislators, industry leaders, and professional organizations committed to improving access to care for Michiganders. While implementation will take time, this legislation lays the foundation for a stronger rehabilitation workforce and improved patient access to high-quality physical therapy services in the years ahead.

PYII student, Jason Wilson, is currently serving as the APTA Michigan's Student Liaison and Student Council Representative. At the event, Jason heard motions and policies discussed and adopted to determine the advancement of the physical therapy profession. We are so proud of our students!🐻
