🥁 Drumroll, please… 🥁

The theme for the 2026–2027 school year is "Worlds Within!"

This theme invites us to take a closer look at our place within our different communities—home, school, and beyond. It encourages us to explore the world with a microscopic lens, examining the tiny worlds beneath a rock, within a drop of water, or inside a piece of art or song. And it creates space for us to look within ourselves as we grow, reflect, and make progress this year.

From the smallest details to the biggest ideas, we can't wait to discover all the worlds within our community and beyond!

Our sign got a little summer refresh! Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who came to our Project Day last Saturday and helped spruce up the landscaping around the sign. We’re so grateful for all the time and care you put into making our school look its best.

We’re excited to welcome everyone back for a new school year next week! We can’t wait to see our students and families again. Be sure to check out the sign the next time you are on campus!

This summer, former CS students from the 2022–2025 graduating classes joined Karen in our new art room for a two-part Alumni Pottery Workshop. Students used hand-building techniques to shape their own mugs and bowls, adding unique texture and surface designs, before glazing their pieces. Everyone walked away with fun, one-of-a-kind creations! We loved catching up with our alumni and look forward to offering more opportunities like this in the future.

Have you ever wondered what the octagonal enclosure on our lower field is? It's a Gaga Pit! It was built by members of Girl Scout Troop 556, including Middle School teacher Julie's daughter, with the help of our Grounds Coordinator, Gene.

Gaga Ball is a fast-paced, dodgeball-style game played in a hexagonal or octagonal pit that combines agility, strategy, and quick reflexes. Last week, our sports campers enjoyed many rounds, with teachers Delontè and Erica even jumping in for a few games! It's easy to see why this game is a favorite!

It may be summer break, but our teachers are staying busy!

This week, a group of CS staff attended the Margaret Sue Copenhaver Institute for Teaching and Learning at Roanoke College. They participated in sessions led by education professionals on student engagement and instructional strategies while gaining fresh perspectives for the coming school year.

Executive Director Katrina Hill also presented at the conference on creating a sense of belonging in preschool through middle school classrooms. We're excited for our teachers to return to school and bring what they've learned back to their students.

📣 Breaking News!! The Community School Class of 2026 has officially graduated!

This morning, our Seminarians took the stage at Celebration, delivering heartfelt and inspirational speeches. We are so proud of them and cannot wait to see all that lies ahead. Congratulations, Seminar Class of 2026! 🎉

A huge thank you to Elena and the Spanish III class for hosting an epic Water Day! It was the perfect way to wrap up the school year and so much fun to see students from all levels come together for some well-deserved fun in the sun! 🌞

Community School alum Alex Bentley, a scientist living in the Ecuadorian Amazon, partnered with a 101-year-old farmer to catalog his lifelong amateur snake collection. What began as a personal passion project has since grown into a full scientific survey of one of the most diverse snake habitats on Earth. Their remarkable collaboration was recently featured in the New York Times.

This year’s Arts Festival was a vibrant and exciting showcase of our students’ talent and months of hard work.

At Community School, the arts are not an extra but a core part of every student’s experience. Watching our students perform, display their artwork, and share their creativity is a powerful reminder of why that matters. These experiences build resilience, confidence, collaboration, and a love for the arts that extend far beyond the stage and the art room.
