As a school that has students from age 3 through 18, our community is tight. Each fall, our senior class is paired with members of the Junior Kindergarten class as “buddies.” Yesterday, this beloved tradition continued as JK-4 students met their senior buddy! They will continue to meet throughout the year, establishing a close bond through picnics, activities, and holiday events.

How quickly does a virus spread through a community? Mrs. Dickenson’s Biology class put disease transmission to the test! Through a hands-on epidemic simulation, students swapped "fluids" to model contact tracing and outbreak dynamics. A color-changing chemical reaction—turning liquid pink—revealed who had been infected and helped the class trace the outbreak back to the original source. 🔬✨

Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see? A warm, freshly baked bear loaf looking at me! 🐻🍞

To culminate a week filled with Eric Carle’s "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?", our JK4 class rolled up their sleeves for some bear bread baking! Learning Beyond the Classroom!

Last week, Mr. Brasil’s Environmental Science class headed to Poor Mountain for their first field investigation of the year!

Students put their Unit 1 learning into action as they explored the connections between the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere and investigated how these systems interact in a real ecosystem. 🌎

Along the trail, students collected evidence, identified natural resources, looked for human impacts, and considered what it means to use an environment sustainably.

They also challenged themselves to think like environmental scientists: How are humans connected to this system, and how can we protect the places we depend on?

From classroom concepts to real-world observations, today was a great reminder that the environment is our classroom, too! 🌲🔬

Our Upper School Philosophy students took a break from the textbooks and spent time with our ECP students yesterday. While standard coursework covers big ideas on paper, true wisdom often comes from lived experience—and our youngest learners had plenty to teach:

- Living in the Present: Preschoolers don't worry about tomorrow’s schedule; they are 100% locked into the block tower right now.

- Putting Others First: Leading with empathy means stepping into someone else’s world and letting their imagination set the rules.

- Relishing the Small Things: A single leaf, a bright crayon, or a successful high-five is worth celebrating.

- Unexpected Mentors: Wisdom isn't limited to age or credentials—sometimes the best life lessons come from a four-year-old with some Play-Doh.

Seeing our high schoolers slow down, laugh, and view the world through a fresh pair of eyes was a powerful reminder that philosophy isn't just about reading great thinkers—it's about learning how to show up for the people around us.

Our 7th graders swapped the classroom for the great outdoors yesterday during an unforgettable field trip to Apple Ridge Farm! Focused on team building, communication, and enjoying nature, the day gave students a chance to connect, grow, and step outside their usual routines.

Here is what some of our 7th graders had to say about the experience:

"It gave us a chance to bond with others besides our closest friends."
"It pushed us out of our comfort zones."
"We explored nature by catching salamanders and other critters (and releasing them!)."
"We got closer to one another."
"We learned teamwork."
"The activities helped me think more about my peers."

Are Double Stuf Oreos REALLY double stuffed?

Students in Mr. Brasil’s AP Biology class put the question to the test! 🧪📊 By measuring the crème filling in Double Stuf Oreos, students investigated variability and calculated standard deviation to see just how consistent that “double” really is.

Because sometimes the best way to learn statistics is sweet, crunchy, and covered in crème. 😋🍪
