And that's a wrap! On Saturday, our Symphonic Band and Concert Band students competed in the All-Star Auditions and knocked it out of the park! Over the past couple of months, these students have worked incredibly hard on this music, and the results of their hard work showed up on Saturday. Please take a second to congratulate these students on their awesome achievement and all of the audition success we have had this year across the Medlin Band!

It has been a busy couple of months for the Medlin Middle School Band!

Our 7th and 8th grade band students kicked off the year with exciting events, including 8th Grade Band Night on Sept. 12, performing at the A-Team football game on Sept. 22, and performing at the NISD Showcase on Sept. 29 combining all NISD middle and high school bands. Students have also been preparing for upcoming all-star, all-district, and all-region auditions through weekly sectionals and masterclasses.

Meanwhile, 6th graders have made incredible progress, having completed their first performance on October 14th!

Today, I am happy to announce it was another record breaking year at the District Band auditions! Our students absolutely crushed it and we are so proud of their hard work. Not only did we have 33 students make the band, but we had 95% of students make it to round 2!

Now it's time for Region Band Auditions next week!

Day 4 of Band Camp in the books!

Dress up day - Tropical Thursday

This was by far the most popular dress up day this week! These students have been working hard learning scales, stand tunes, and making new friendships between sections and grade levels. Tomorrow will be our last day of band camp and the 5th annual Band Olympics Competition. It's been a great camp and we are looking forward to one last great day!

Double Trouble on Day 2 of Band Camp!

Dress up Day - Twin Tuesday

Some of the boys were smart enough to figure out if they all wore their band shirts, they were bound to be matching with someone.

Day 1 of Band Camp in the books!

Dress up day - Medlin Monday

The kids knocked it out of the park today! Great leadership from the 8th graders as we brushed off the cobwebs and played through some Pep-Band Tunes. Excellence Starts Here!

Big Update!!!

Dr. Marcus Wolfe will be joining the Medlin Band Program as the new assistant band director for the 2025-2026 school year! Dr. Wolfe comes to Medlin with a tremendous amount of experience, and we could not be more excited to have him work with our students this year! Some quick facts about Dr. Wolfe are that he has both a M.M and B.M degree in Jazz and Saxophone Studies from UNT, and a D.M.A in Jazz Studies and Theory/Composition from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His main instrument is the Saxophone, and he has previously taught at the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts in Fort Worth, Texas and is the founder of the Lone Star Music Society. He has also formerly served as Director of Jazz Studies at the Valley Christian Conservatory of the Arts in San Jose, CA and as Assistant Professor of Saxophone and Director of the Gene Harris Jazz Festival at Boise State University.

If you would like to know more about Marcus and get his complete bio, along with seeing some of his other work, you can check out his website here - https://www.marcuswolfe.com/

We are so exited to welcome Dr. Wolfe into the Medlin Band Family!

Mega Spring Update!

The Medlin Band program has been hard at work the past couple of months, and we wanted to take a second to update everyone on the amazing things our students have accomplished in this time.

In the first half of the semester, all our concert band students performed in a small ensemble at the NISD ensemble contest. These students represented the Medlin Band Program at the highest level, and every single group received a 1st division superior rating, the highest possible score!

At UIL, both the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble knocked it out of the park and received the highest possible scores from every judge in both the concert and sight-reading portions of the competition. This marks the 4th year in a row that both bands received the “Sweepstakes” rating at the UIL evaluation!

In April, both the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble competed in the Lonestar Classic Competition at the Murchison. Once again, all three judges gave both bands straight 1’s across the board! Additionally, the Symphonic Band was named Best in Class! AND two Wind Ensemble students, Quinn Harris and Mason Mayfield, were given outstanding soloist awards!

This past Thursday, our 6th graders competed in their solo competition. Not only did over 90 students receive 1st division ratings on their solos, but we also had 12 students named as outstanding soloists. These students are named in the attached image. On Friday, we also had our pizza party celebration for our 6th graders who completed their scale karate for the spring semester.

Lastly, on Saturday, we started the process of fitting all our incoming 6th graders on their band instruments for next year. It was so much fun getting to know our future band members and we cannot wait to start them on their musical journey.

These students have worked incredibly hard this semester, and we are so proud of what they have accomplished. Up next, we have our 7th and 8th grade solo contest, 2-spring concerts, and a 6th grade trip to the water park to round out the year! The fun never stops!

Congratulations to the 43 Symphonic Band students who earned a spot in the All-Star Band in today's audition! Combined with our results at District and Region auditions, this ends a recording breaking audition season for the Medlin Band Program. Up next we have district clinic and concert next week, holiday tour, Epic Waters and our winter concerts. Hard work pays off!
