Congratulations to the 2025-2026 Medlin Wind Ensemble for being named a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence! This means they were in the top 25% of applicants.

The Mark of Excellence is a national program that recognizes outstanding achievement in performance and recording quality. Ensembles submit live recordings, which are then reviewed and ranked by a panel of nationally recognized adjudicators.

Hello everyone! It has been a really really long time since our last social media post, so this is going to serve as a wrap up for the year. Even though we haven’t been posting regularly, our kids have still been achieving great things, and I want to make sure they are getting the recognition they deserve for all their hard work!

To start, here are some of the amazing things these students have accomplished this year. Please see the attached photos for specific lists for each of these ensembles.

We set a school record at the district band competition with 33 students making the ensemble.

We had the highest number of students making the Region Band in Northwest ISD with 21 students making the band.

We had 32 students make the All-Star Band which continues to set our students up for future success in the Region Band.

Concert Band went to Pre-UIL for the first time in program history, setting the stage for a future performance at the actual UIL competition.

Both Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble got straight 1’s (the highest possible score) at UIL for the 5th year in a row.

Wind Ensemble got “Best in Festival” at the Lonestar Classic for the first time in program history.

We had a record number of outstanding soloists at the 6th grade and NISD Solo Festivals!

Wind Ensemble submitted for the Mark of Excellence, a national competition, and will get results at the start of next year!

Last but certainly not least, I am excited to announce that Laura Dunlap will be joining us as our new Assistant Band Director here at Medlin Middle School next year! Please click the link below for more information about Ms. Dunlap. She visited our students earlier this year, and we are all so excited for her to join us!

And that's a wrap! On Saturday, our Symphonic Band and Concert Band students competed in the All-Star Auditions and knocked it out of the park! Over the past couple of months, these students have worked incredibly hard on this music, and the results of their hard work showed up on Saturday. Please take a second to congratulate these students on their awesome achievement and all of the audition success we have had this year across the Medlin Band!

It has been a busy couple of months for the Medlin Middle School Band!

Our 7th and 8th grade band students kicked off the year with exciting events, including 8th Grade Band Night on Sept. 12, performing at the A-Team football game on Sept. 22, and performing at the NISD Showcase on Sept. 29 combining all NISD middle and high school bands. Students have also been preparing for upcoming all-star, all-district, and all-region auditions through weekly sectionals and masterclasses.

Meanwhile, 6th graders have made incredible progress, having completed their first performance on October 14th!

Today, I am happy to announce it was another record breaking year at the District Band auditions! Our students absolutely crushed it and we are so proud of their hard work. Not only did we have 33 students make the band, but we had 95% of students make it to round 2!

Now it's time for Region Band Auditions next week!

Day 4 of Band Camp in the books!

Dress up day - Tropical Thursday

This was by far the most popular dress up day this week! These students have been working hard learning scales, stand tunes, and making new friendships between sections and grade levels. Tomorrow will be our last day of band camp and the 5th annual Band Olympics Competition. It's been a great camp and we are looking forward to one last great day!
