Mega Spring Update!
The Medlin Band program has been hard at work the past couple of months, and we wanted to take a second to update everyone on the amazing things our students have accomplished in this time.
In the first half of the semester, all our concert band students performed in a small ensemble at the NISD ensemble contest. These students represented the Medlin Band Program at the highest level, and every single group received a 1st division superior rating, the highest possible score!
At UIL, both the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble knocked it out of the park and received the highest possible scores from every judge in both the concert and sight-reading portions of the competition. This marks the 4th year in a row that both bands received the “Sweepstakes” rating at the UIL evaluation!
In April, both the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble competed in the Lonestar Classic Competition at the Murchison. Once again, all three judges gave both bands straight 1’s across the board! Additionally, the Symphonic Band was named Best in Class! AND two Wind Ensemble students, Quinn Harris and Mason Mayfield, were given outstanding soloist awards!
This past Thursday, our 6th graders competed in their solo competition. Not only did over 90 students receive 1st division ratings on their solos, but we also had 12 students named as outstanding soloists. These students are named in the attached image. On Friday, we also had our pizza party celebration for our 6th graders who completed their scale karate for the spring semester.
Lastly, on Saturday, we started the process of fitting all our incoming 6th graders on their band instruments for next year. It was so much fun getting to know our future band members and we cannot wait to start them on their musical journey.
These students have worked incredibly hard this semester, and we are so proud of what they have accomplished. Up next, we have our 7th and 8th grade solo contest, 2-spring concerts, and a 6th grade trip to the water park to round out the year! The fun never stops!
