Sharing the event details from Rick Crosier
School Resource Officer for Burlington Elementary that is open to the community.
"On Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 11:00am until 2:00pm, we will be hosting the first annual Burlington Elementary School Bike Rodeo and Safety Day here at the School. Your student can feel free to bring their bike and we will go over safety precautions as well as bike safety rules. Cone courses will be set up so that students can show their knowledge of safety. Please make sure that your student brings a helmet as well as any other protective clothing they would like to wear. If they will be riding their bikes please make sure they wear tennis shoes for extra safety and protection.
We will start out the day with the Roanoke County Police Department and Sheriff's Office Honor Guard presenting the colors while the National Anthem is performed. There will be an Emergency Vehicle Car Display by the Roanoke County Police Department, Roanoke County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Police, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and the Roanoke County Fire and EMS. Roanoke County Police will have K-9 demonstrations, as well as Bike Officers showing off their skills. Communication Officers will also be on scene to go over practical ideas in case your student ever has to call 9-1-1. There will be free food from several local restaurants available as well as games for people attending to enjoy.
There will be four new bikes given away throughout the day. You have to be present when the drawing occurs in order to win a bike. The bikes have been donated by: Crosier Security Consulting, Four Directions Consulting LLC, Three Sisters Consulting Inc, and Burlington Elementary School PTA. Burlington Elementary School PTA has also donated bike helmets for each bike as well as elbow and knee pads for each new bike. This whole day is free and open to the Community.
October is National Crime Prevention Month. This is a way that Burlington Elementary School can pave the path of a more open relationship with our First Responders. We invite any of the other Elementary Schools in Roanoke County to come and participate with us. Bring material or games and come set up a table with your School name and mascot on it. Please make every effort to attend this special event. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
