How prepared are you feeling for baby’s arrival?!?

Do you know the 5-1-1 rule for labor? This is a good “rule” that gives you a good idea of when you’re in active labor and should call your doula, doctor and/or midwife. This is also when you might want to start heading to your birth location.

The 5-1-1 rule is simple to remember: contractions are 5 minutes apart, lasting for 1 minute, and this has been happening consistently for at least 1 hour.

I just got home after teaching the first of a 2 part childbirth education class at Blue Ridge Women's Center. What a great group of couples came tonight!! I can’t wait until next week. Being able to do what I love brings me such joy 🤩 🥰

Wondering what to pack in your hospital bag? It can be hard to decide what things to bring and not bring and how to decide. Write “PACK” in the comments and I’ll send you a detailed hospital packing list!!

Have you ever wondered how you actually time your contractions? It can be a little confusing- especially if you’re trying to figure it out when you’re already in labor!!

Contractions are timed from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next. That will tell you how far apart they are, which is helpful information when you’re trying to decide when to go to your birth place. You also time from the start to finish of a contraction. That tells you how long they are lasting.
