When Tokyo calls, you answer! Seven Hollins students traveled to Lakeland University's Tokyo campus for an incredible two-week cultural immersion experience. From Japanese language classes to daily life in the heart of one of the world's most vibrant cities, this is exactly the kind of transformative, beyond-the-classroom learning we love to see.
This opportunity was made possible by a transformational gift from Jane Parke Batten '58. Thank you for opening the world to our students.

We are so incredibly honored to be nominated for the Al Dente Award by Girls on the Run Central Virginia and Blue Ridge! This nomination recognizes teams who stay composed and make the magic happen under pressure — and our Hollins volunteers do exactly that. But more than logistics and hard work, what they bring is something deeper: a living example to young women that confidence is built through community, through showing up for one another, and through refusing to let the pressure win.

Everyone say hi to Ny'Ree! 👋
Ny'Ree is a biology major and public health minor from Prince Frederick, Maryland. “I’ve always wanted to go into women’s health,” Ny’Ree Holland ’26 exclaims of her plans for a master’s in biomedical sciences before pursuing medical school to become an OB/GYN.
At Hollins, however, she discovered something equally important: growth often begins with stepping beyond your comfort zone. While she first arrived on campus a bit shy, she challenged herself to become more involved, which led her to the Hollins Activities Board where she ultimately became the HAB chair.
In leadership roles, both visible and behind the scenes, Holland has focused on creating spaces where students feel heard, supported, and represented.

At Hollins, we see firsthand how a rigorous academic foundation transforms lives, cultivates curiosity, and prepares leaders to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
We extend our gratitude to our dedicated faculty, whose mentorship and passion inspire our students every day, and to the staff, students, and alumnae who make our community a vibrant center of academic excellence and purposeful leadership.

Everyone say hi to Julianne! 👋
Julianne is a neuropsychology of gender interdisciplinary major from Salem, Virginia. Thirty years after first attending Hollins, she returned as a Horizon student, drawing on her experience as a parent and entrepreneur to design a major combining neuroscience, psychology, and gender studies to focus on Alzheimer’s disease research.
“Returning to school at 45 can feel horribly awkward,” she says. “But Hollins’ atmosphere of warmth, understanding, and support made this journey much more comfortable.”
Following graduation, Julianne plans to volunteer in geriatric mental health at Catawba Hospital while preparing for the MCAT and applying to Ph.D. programs!
