It was an amazing day as our students returned to The Summit Sportsplex for another exciting opportunity, this time hearing from acclaimed speaker and former college football player Inky Johnson! 🏈

Inky shared a deeply powerful message about perseverance, purpose, and refusing to let life’s challenges define your future.

We’re grateful to The Summit and the Connelly family for continuing to open their doors to our students and bring inspiring experiences like this to Roanoke. This growing partnership is already making a meaningful impact, and we’re excited about what’s still to come!

Welcome to the Colonels family, Coach Mack!

William Fleming High School and RCPS today announced that Mack Lewis will serve as the William Fleming Girls Basketball head coach, effective immediately.

Coach Mack brings extensive coaching and program leadership experience, along with a passion for developing student-athletes on and off the court. He currently serves as Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Salem High School, where he has helped lead the program to VHSL State Runner-Up finishes in 2025 and 2026, multiple district and regional championships, and a 93-19 record over the past four seasons.

In addition to his high school coaching experience, he is the founder and executive director of Hoop Love Academy, a nonprofit basketball development organization serving more than 400 athletes across the Roanoke and New River Valleys. Through the academy, he has built a culture-centered model emphasizing skill development, academics, character, leadership, and mentorship.

A Northside High School hoops alumnus, Coach Mack has deep roots in the Roanoke Valley basketball community. He previously served as Head JV Girls Basketball Coach at Patrick Henry High School and has also coached at Northside High School, contributing to a state championship program. Throughout his coaching journey, he has focused on creating disciplined, accountable, and competitive team cultures that help student-athletes reach their full potential. Coach Mack said he is most looking forward to building relationships, which are foundational to all other aspects of team success!

Reminder: Tomorrow, Friday, September 4, is a non-student and non-teacher day. This means there is no school for students, and only 12-month staff should report. In addition, all schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, for Labor Day.

We look forward to students and staff returning on Tuesday. Enjoy the long weekend!
