Taylor Tutoring Services students at VALS had an amazing time yesterday at the Community Builders Mental Health & Self-Care Day at Lucy Addison Middle School! 💙
Our students enjoyed an afternoon focused on wellness, self-care, fun, and positive connections. Big thanks to Community Builders, FEDUP, and a special thank you to for supporting opportunities that continue to pour into our youth!

Today at VAL, we turned learning into a whole experience! 💡🐟
We had a special visit from Clean Valley Council, and they brought the story Larry the Roanoke Logperch to life for our students. The kids didn’t just hear the story—they really understood it.
They broke down: ✔️ Habitats
✔️ Food chains
✔️ Pollution and how it impacts our environment
Then the creativity kicked in…
Our students designed their own habitats using logperch and other fish. They built rivers, added fish, and yes…some even added pollution to show the real-life impact 💭
Hands-on learning.
Critical thinking. Real-world connections
This is what it looks like when education goes beyond the books.

We love showing up in spaces that pour back into leaders! ☕✨
Yesterday, Taylor Tutoring Services attended Brew & Build and gained valuable insight on communication, empowerment, and positive leadership. Growth doesn’t stop — and neither do we.

Community + literacy = impact 📚🤝
Grateful to read and learn alongside our Villages at Lincoln students.
Thanks to Taylor Tutoring Services, children enrolled in tutoring classes at Villages at Lincoln continue to strengthen their reading and fluency skills. Recently, they enjoyed reading Larry the Logperch, a wonderful book written by Melissa Rooney and illustrated by Jane Gabrielle.
The story helped kids learn about the challenges facing these adorable, rock-flipping, endangered little fish that call the Roanoke River home.
These tutoring services are free and available to youth at Villages at Lincoln and Hunt Manor. If you would like your child to participate in this program, please contact our It Takes a Village Program Coordinator, Abbigail Reed, at [email protected].

Game On!
Our middle schoolers at VALS really stepped into their creative genius. They created game boards. The game boards had to be creative, grammatically correct (including the rules & instructions) The majority of the questions had to cover academic content.
They even took it to a competitive level! A panel of 3 judges were so impressed, they ended up giving all of the contestants a prize!

Our Villages at Lincoln (VALS) kiddos were locked in today — learning, laughing, and getting comfortable on the bean bags and rugs! 📚✨
Proud of my crew...they crushed their lessons!
