As we close another incredible school year, we're taking a moment to celebrate the teachers who make every day meaningful. ❤️
Thank you to our teachers for the encouragement, patience, kindness, and dedication you bring to every classroom. The impact you make reaches far beyond academics and leaves a lasting impression on the hearts of our students.

Reminder: Tomorrow, June 4th, is a 2-hour early dismissal and the last day of school 🎉 We thank you for your support of Roanoke City Public Schools and hope you have a safe and restful summer break.
Please see below for a copy of the end-of-year message sent this evening by Dr. White to all families and staff:
"Good evening, Roanoke City Public Schools families and staff. This is Dr. Verletta White, Superintendent of Roanoke City Public Schools. As we close another school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for the partnership, resilience, and care that you've shown throughout this school year. I encourage you to listen through to the end of this message for a few important reminders and updates.
Tomorrow, Thursday, June 4th, is the last day of school, and we will be on a 2-hour early dismissal for students. We are also excited to celebrate our graduates this week: William Fleming on Friday at 10 a.m. and Patrick Henry on Friday at 3 p.m. Graduation is always a special milestone, and we are incredibly proud of the class of 2026 and all that they have accomplished!
This school year brought both successes and challenges. Like many school divisions, we face difficult financial realities that will impact us as we move forward into the next school year. And we had to make important decisions about how to best support our schools, our students, and our community. Through it all, though, our teachers, our staff, administrators, families, community partners, and School Board, pulled together and remained focused on what matters most, which is our students. Because of that shared commitment, we were able to stay focused while our students continue to learn, grow, and excel in academics, the arts, athletics, and in their service to others. Their accomplishments reflect not only their hard work but also the encouragement and support of the people around them. And for that, we are deeply grateful.
As summer begins, we are looking forward to welcoming many students back for summer learning, athletics, fine arts, and enrichment opportunities. Our STAR program and high school summer school begin Monday, June 15th. We will also continue offering our free Staying Safe by Staying Connected camps, the Community Builders program for rising 8th graders, and our summer reading program. We know summer is also a time for rest, family, and renewal. And we hope every student and staff member has the opportunity to recharge and enjoy time with loved ones.
More information about summer opportunities will be available on our website, and we will send a text message link following this call.
Before I close, I simply want to say thank you. Public education is strongest when schools and families work together, and we are grateful for the trust that you place in us each day. I wish you and your family a safe, joyful, and restful summer. Congratulations again to the class of 2026, and thank you for being a part of the Roanoke City Public Schools community. Have a wonderful evening."

It’s been a great Staff Appreciation Week at Wasena! We celebrated our hard working staff with a 5-course meal from our “Wasena Bistro” menu throughout the week. Huge thanks to the Wasena Elementary School PTA for supporting us as we spoiled our staff, our community partners, Qdoba and Dunkin Donuts, for their donations and our office staff for putting it all together!
⭐️⭐️ Wasena Bistro Menu ⭐️⭐️
Monday - Appetizers
Tuesday - Soup and Salad
Wednesday - Main course (catered by Chef Claytor's Dream On A Plate)
Thursday - Dessert
Friday - Nightcap (school approved, of course)
With full bellies and full hearts, we are ready to finish this school year strong!
For Teacher Appreciation Week, our elementary students shared sweet messages with the teachers who make a difference in their lives every single day. From encouragement and patience to laughter and learning, these special educators help shape bright futures in ways words can barely capture.
Thank you to all of our teachers and staff for the love, dedication, and impact you bring to our students each day. You are appreciated more than you know. ❤️🍎

We had our Walk-a-thon assembly yesterday and what a way to end the week! Students who raised over $100 got the opportunity to silly string a staff member of their choice with some even getting to pie Ms. Seal in the face! Ms. Perrin’s class raised the most money so they got to super soak Ms. Seal!
There were 30 other prize buckets/tickets given to our students for their hard work to fundraise for our school. Thank you to all the local businesses that helped celebrate our Stars success! Congrats to Ms. Eldridge’s class for completing the most laps in school and getting a cupcake party!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraiser! We raised the most money we ever have this year, over $8,000! We are so thankful for all who care about our Wasena Family! ⭐️🤍

Our favorite school fundraiser! We can’t go without saying a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Reid! She is the one who organized everything and we are so thankful to have her as part of our Wasena Family! ⭐️🤍
