This is a great program!

Do you want a FREE summer reading program your child can do safely at home? What about access to six weeks of ready-made activities and free books? Do you want your child to have a college-aged mentor to connect with this summer? Energy Express is for you!

All children entering 1st - 6th-grade next fall are eligible for this program. There's no cost to participate and you do NOT have to have internet access.

Below you will find the Lewis County Energy Express Child Application link. You can apply online or you may complete a paper application. Please call the Lewis County Extension Office at 304-269-4660 to request a paper application.

Today is Kindergarten’s pick up day. From 10am-1pm you may come pick up your child’s things. It will be curbside pickup but we hope to see you and your child today! We have missed you all!

Dear Families,

We’re excited to announce that Roanoke Elementary School will be participating in the OPEN National Field Day event on Friday, May 8th!

Field Day is an important tradition at our school. It is a significant day for our students and our staff, and we feel that in these incredibly challenging times this national event is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community and support one another in a fun and meaningful way.

OPEN (Online Physical Education Network) is a national public service organization that provides curriculum and training support to more than 90,000 teachers in all 50 states. We will be using their resources and social media network to help us organize our school’s participation in .

All events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items. You won’t be asked to purchase any specialized equipment or supplies.

Here’s how it will work:
▪ Our school is now registered as a participant in this event. Families can choose to register as well, but it’s not a requirement.
▪ The event website is www.openphysed.org/nationalfieldday.
▪ As a part of registration, we will receive Field Day Friday email updates each week with new resources that we will share with you.
▪ You can also find updates via social media using .
▪ You will receive a set of event cards that you can use to begin practicing. You will also receive a participant practice sheet for tracking progress.
▪ Your family will be asked to choose a minimum of 4 events to complete on Field Day. However, you may complete as many events as you’d like to.
• Let the Games Begin! The National Field Day Torch Run will kick off this Sunday, May 3, at noon. Watch kids from around the country run through all 50 states carrying the National Field Day Flame. The run will end on Thursday night as the Field Day Torch makes its way into Texas for the lighting of the OPEN Cauldron. Follow the Torch Run: OPENPhysEd.org/followthetorch (Sunday, 5/3)

• If your kids want to post pictures of themselves running with the "torch" please post on the National Field Day page!
▪ On May 8, our entire school will participate in events, complete an official score card, share photos and videos through the school’s page, and participate nationally on social media using .
▪ After the event, your student will submit their scorecard to their physical education teacher through their schoology account.
▪ Every student that completes at least 4 events will receive an OPEN National Field Day certificate.

We appreciate your cooperation and are hopeful that your entire family will use it as a fun and meaningful way to be physically active together and with our entire school community.

Mason Detamore and his sisters learning about ocean animals first hand at our private beach in Jekyll Island, Georgia. They caught sand dollars, cannon ball jelly fish, blue crab. They seen a horse shoe crab shell and a baby alligator in the wild.

Roanoke Elementary students will be able to pick up their personal belongings the week of May 11th-15th. Your child’s belongings have been gathered and bagged by their teacher.

We will be conducting a curbside pickup. Drive up to the school, stay in your vehicle and your child’s teacher or staff member will place your items in the trunk of your vehicle. If you have textbooks or any other items that need returned, you may drop them off as well.

For those that have not been able to order your yearbook online, you may drop off you order and payment at this time. The cost is 12.95. You must have a check or exact change for your order. It will be shipped directly to you.

This is not how we like to end our year but in order to keep everyone safe as possible, we had to make some changes. This is not a “normal “year and goodbyes this year are not the same without the hugs but remember how much we love and miss each and every one of you.

Families with multiple children only need to come once to pick up all their children’s things.

Pick Up Times are from 10am-1 pm on the days listed below.

Tuesday, May 12th………………Kindergarten
Wednesday, May 13th……………..1st Grade
