A frosty suction/v***r line doesn’t always mean liquid floodback. A freezer with 10-12 degrees of ev***rator superheat is operating properly, returning superheated V***R refrigerant to the compressor. Frost occurs on the suction line simply because the v***r refrigerant is below the outdoor dewpoint AND the freezing point of water (32degF).

The easiest way to showcase your integrity and work ethic to customers is through janitorial maintenance. Imagine shelling out $1k for a timing belt replacement on your car. Wouldn’t that go down a little easier if the car had been detailed when you got back in it? Clean it until its CLEAN.

The Socratic Method is a dialogue technique that uses a series of focused questions to test ideas, find flaws in logic, and help people find answers through their own reasoning instead of listening to a lecture. Find out what your apprentice already knows, and ask him or her questions with the goal of having them arrive at NEW knowledge OR solidify concepts that arent concrete for them. This will keep them engaged and develope their own thought processes.

In order to become confortable reading wiring schematics, start by learning every symbol on the schematic and what type of component they represent. Be able to distinguish line voltage circuits from control voltage circuits. Then try to put that together with your understanding of the sequence of what needs to happen in order for a piece of equipment to do its job.

Air is a fluid which has mass, can hold and carry energy and requires energy to move. Standard air weighs 0.075lb/ft^3 and that may not seem like much until you do the math. A 1 ton window unit blower moving 400cfm is pushing 1,800lbs of weight every hour. Try moving 1,800lb of gym plates per hour and you’ll begin to understand why the air conditioner is the largest energy consumer in your home.

For TXV systems, subcooling is KING. The valve itself keeps the compressor happy, and the amount of subcooled liquid in the system should maximize heat transfer in the condenser while still providing full liquid to the valve.

If you’re diagnosing and repairing gas leaks with only a bottle of soap, tell your boss it’s time to make an investment in a combustible gas leak detector. Not all gas leaks will bubble. Showing a customer the leak with your ghost buster tool will cement for them the validity of your repair and increaese their confidence in your ability to be their “main man”.
