Viking Students, Parents & Families!!! 💙💛
Can you believe we are already entering WEEK 6? It seems like just yesterday we welcomed our Vikings back to school, and now we are six weeks into our voyage!
We are incredibly proud of the work happening throughout Viking City. Our students are learning, growing, exploring new opportunities, and being challenged every day. We have made progress, but we still have work to do!
Our message to every Viking this week is simple:
🎯 KEEP PUSHING. KEEP LEARNING. KEEP GROWING.
We have HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR EVERY VIKING because we believe every student is capable of success. We will not lower the bar for our students. Instead, our teachers will provide the instruction, encouragement, support, and opportunities students need to reach it!
Families, please continue encouraging your Viking to come to school every day, on time, prepared, focused, and ready to learn.

📚 TEACHING & LEARNING IS OUR MAIN THING!
Our students have now completed two Common Formative Assessments (CFAs). Teachers are using those results to identify what students have mastered, what needs to be retaught, and what students are ready to learn next.
This week, Vikings should expect to WORK and THINK!
Students will continue participating in:
📖 Purposeful reading and novel studies
➗ Hands-on mathematics using manipulatives
👥 Small groups and learning stations
💻 Schoolnet and EOG-style practice
🧠 Critical thinking and problem solving
🔬 STEM and real-world learning
Vikings, your teachers cannot do the thinking for you!
We need YOU to read, discuss, question, explain, solve, write, create, collaborate, and demonstrate what you know.
The goal isn't simply to finish the work.
THE GOAL IS TO LEARN IT!
💻 WE ARE PREPARING NOW!
Our teachers will continue providing rigorous standards-aligned questions throughout instruction.
Why?
Because we don't wait until the end of the year to prepare students for success.
Students need consistent opportunities to practice reading carefully, analyzing information, solving challenging problems, explaining their reasoning, using evidence, and working independently.
Every day is an opportunity to get stronger!
🌎 LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM!
This is an exciting week for our Vikings!
⚡ THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1
Our 8th-grade students will travel to the Center for Energy Education for another hands-on learning opportunity.
🦖🔬 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2
WE'RE HEADED TO RALEIGH!
Our entire school will travel to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences!
This experience allows our Vikings to take science and STEM beyond the classroom through exploration, discovery, and real-world learning.
Families, please make sure all required field-trip forms and information have been returned.
These opportunities are an important part of our commitment to:
EXPANDING ACCESS.
CREATING OPPORTUNITIES.
INSPIRING EXCELLENCE.
🗳️ SGA CAMPAIGN SEASON BEGINS!
Students who applied for the Student Government Association and submitted their applications to Mrs. Sterling may begin campaigning this week!
Candidates, remember:
LEADERSHIP IS MORE THAN A TITLE.
Leadership means serving others, demonstrating responsibility, communicating effectively, showing good character, and setting an example.
📣 October 5 — Campaign Speeches
Candidates will have approximately 3 minutes each to share their message with their fellow Vikings.
🎖️ October 16 at 2:15 p.m. — SGA Officer Initiation Ceremony
Our special guest will be Damian Tucker, Esq.
We are excited to watch our student leaders LEAD!

Come learn more about Title I, visit classrooms, meet with your child's teachers, learn about curriculum and academic progress, participate in STEM activities, explore our STEM Gallery, learn about clubs and special programs, connect with school communication resources, and enjoy food, family, learning, and fun!

🏁 OCTOBER 16: BEYOND THE STARTING LINE
We are also excited to welcome Mr. Craig Ivey to Viking City on Friday, October 16, at 9:00 a.m.
He will share a special message with our students entitled:
“BEYOND THE STARTING LINE”
The message is one we want EVERY Viking to understand:
WHERE YOU START IN LIFE DOES NOT DETERMINE WHERE YOU CAN GO!
Dream big. Work hard. Take advantage of opportunities. Your starting point does not have to become your ending point!
🔬 VIKINGS ARE THINKING LIKE ENGINEERS!
Throughout this quarter, students will also participate in STEM projects across their classes.
Our Vikings will learn to use the Engineering Design Process:
❓ ASK → 💭 IMAGINE → 📝 PLAN → 🛠️ CREATE → 🔄 IMPROVE
At Davie, STEM means:
S — SOLVING authentic problems

We want students doing more than memorizing information. We want them using what they learn to solve problems and create something meaningful!

⚔️ SOMETHING GREAT IS HAPPENING IN VIKING CITY!
We can feel the momentum.
Our Vikings are receiving new opportunities. They are traveling beyond our campus. They are engaging in STEM. They are developing as leaders. They are being challenged academically. And we are continuing to build a school where students can see possibilities beyond what they have seen before.
But none of it matters unless our students take advantage of the opportunities in front of them.
Vikings, SHOW UP. WORK HARD. ASK QUESTIONS. READ. THINK. CREATE. LEAD.
Families, continue encouraging them.
We have everything we need to be successful, and WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED!
