Mrs. Mercer’s third graders are diving into the novel Frindle and recently discovered the wonder of the dictionary! 🔎📖

We love seeing our Sharks so excited, curious, and engaged in their learning. Moments like these remind us that reading is about so much more than words on a page. It’s about discovering new ideas, asking questions, building vocabulary, and developing a lifelong love of learning.

🦈💙 Grandparent Bingo was a FULL HOUSE of fun! 🎉

What an incredible evening at Summerfield! We loved seeing so many of our Sharks spending special time with their grandparents and loved ones at Grandparent Bingo. 💙

There was plenty of bingo, laughter, prizes, smiles, and most importantly, memories being made together. These are the moments that make our school community so special.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us and to all of the staff and volunteers who helped make the evening possible. We hope our grandparents felt just how important they are to our Summerfield family! 🥰

Hello Shark Nation!

We had a FIN-tastic time at Grandparent Bingo on Friday night! It was wonderful seeing our students and grandparents enjoying time together and creating special memories. The smiles throughout the evening were priceless!

📚 Book Fair Week: The Book Fair is open all week, and we encourage families to set up a digital eWallet for students. This is a safe and easy way for students to shop without bringing cash to school.

✏️ Testing This Week
Please help students do their best by getting a good night's sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, and arriving on time each day. Testing will begin promptly at 7:45 AM.

Kindergarten: STAR Early Literacy PM1 Assessment on Tuesday and STAR Math Assessment on Wednesday

1st Grade: STAR PM1 Reading Assessment on Friday

🍗 Spirit Night
Join us for Dave's Hot Chicken Spirit Night on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 PM! Be sure to check the flyer attached to your email for details.

⏰ Attendance Matters
Every minute counts! Being just 10 minutes late each day adds up to 30 hours of missed learning over a school year, which is about the same as watching 12 movies. Our monthly attendance goal is 96%, and Summerfield finished August at 94.99%. We know we can do even better in September!

A special congratulations to our August Attendance Champions, who earned the highest attendance percentage in their grade level and will proudly display the attendance trophy this month:

You do NOT have to be attending Grandparent Bingo to shop! All Summerfield families are welcome to stop by between 5:00 and 6:00 PM to browse and purchase items from the Book Fair.

🎶🦈 Can Sharks make music with science? Absolutely! 🔬🎵

Our 3rd–5th grade Sharks are invited to dive into this month’s At-Home Science Challenge: Musical Water Glasses! 💧🎶

Using just glasses, water, and a spoon, students can explore sound energy and pitch by changing the amount of water in each glass. Fill, tap, listen, compare, and investigate:

🔎 How does the amount of water affect the sound you hear?

Take the learning even further! Ask your young scientist to describe the pattern they notice, make a prediction, and use evidence from their investigation to explain their thinking.

And who knows? Your kitchen might turn into a science lab AND a concert hall! 🎼🔬

🦈💙 Building Our Classroom Family, One “Me Bag” at a Time! 💙🦈

During Ms. Sweeney’s KG morning meeting, our Sharks had a special opportunity to learn a little more about one another through “Me Bags!” 🛍️✨

Each student filled a bag with a few of their favorite things and then shared them with the class. From special treasures to favorite hobbies and interests, every bag told a little story about the person holding it.

Activities like this are about so much more than sharing favorite things. They help our students build connections, discover what they have in common, appreciate what makes each person unique, and create a classroom where everyone feels like they belong. 💙

At Summerfield, we know strong relationships are the foundation for strong learning. Classmates become teammates, classrooms become families, and together we become a stronger Shark Nation! 🦈🤝

Registration is now open for Girls on the Run for girls in grades 3-5!
Girls on the Run is a positive, confidence-building program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Through engaging lessons, physical activity, and meaningful discussions, participants develop important life skills, build friendships, and prepare for a celebratory 5K event.

The season begins the week of September 21, and space is limited. Practices will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and participants are expected to attend both days each week. Families should also plan for student pick-up at 3:50 p.m. on practice days.

Our K–2 Summerfield Sharks can dive into science right at home with this month’s At-Home Science Challenge: Treasure Box Sorting! 🔎

Families, grab a collection of everyday household objects and challenge your young scientist to observe, describe, compare, and classify them by different properties:

🔹 Rough or smooth
🔹 Hard or soft
🔹 Light or heavy
🔹 Big or small

🌟 Ready for an extra challenge? Mix everything back together and ask your child to sort the SAME objects in a completely different way!

But here’s where the real science magic happens: Ask your child WHY they placed each object in that group. 💭 That simple conversation encourages them to explain their thinking, make connections, and think like a scientist!
