Words cannot begin to express how deeply touched the Porter family was this past Friday night. The tribute to Ron was incredible and we are extremely grateful for all the love and support shown by this school, community, and throughout the state. We know Ron would have felt so honored to be inducted into the Riverton High School Hall of Fame alongside the previous inductees, including his father. Thank you to Reggie Miller and RHS, the Booster Club, the Wolverines and Broncs, Fremont Motors, CD Signs, and last but certainly not least, the fans and community for making this night so special. Ron was always so proud to be a part of the school districts and communities in Wyoming—and Friday proved, yet again, why he felt that way. We are incredibly blessed.
Never underestimate your power to change a life. With love and gratitude,
Toi Porter and Family

It’s GAME DAY! And not just any game day! Tonight, Riverton High School Hall of Fame will honor the man who selflessly dedicated his life to others—countless students, families, friends, schools, and communities have been impacted by his grace and guidance…and humor.
Coach Ron Porter, a former RHS and CHS teacher and coach, has grandsons playing in both respective programs, Grady McCarten, junior #5 for the Broncs, and Paxton Yeates, sophomore #88 for the Wolverines. Undoubtedly, he would be proud to see two of his “Mudville 9” taking the field (even on opposite sides) under the direction of some of the best coaches in the state. In addition, he taught, coached, announced for, and impacted several coaches, parents, and fans from both schools.
In lieu of a formal induction dinner, the family extends a heartfelt invitation to honor Porter at the game tonight. After all, Porter would have preferred a good ball game featuring his two favorite high school teams, above any formal fanfare.
Please join us, Wolverines, Broncs, friends, fans, students, players, and community members in celebrating the 2020 induction of Ron Porter into Riverton High School Hall of Fame.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7PM

Huge THANK YOU to Fremont Chevrolet GMC for your generosity and support! Be sure to stop by the Booster Club table and grab a balloon for a small donation! All money raised will go toward the RHS Booster Club Porter-Strong Memorial Scholarship. We heard there may even be a few navy blue ones for those Cody fans.

It's almost time! Please plan to support the Porter Family as they induct the Patriarch, tomorrow night.

It's fitting to honor him this way. Coach Porter would have preferred the Friday Night Lights featuring his two favorite high school teams, above any formal fan-fare, no doubt.

Please join us as we celebrate the 2020 induction of Ron Porter into Riverton High School Hall of Fame. Kickoff is at 7PM.

Press Release by Riverton High School (Riverton, WY) – The Riverton High School community is proud to announce the long-awaited induction ceremony of the late Ron Porter into the Riverton High School Hall of Fame. As many may know, a scholarship was set up at CWC in honor of Coach Porter. In an effort to continue making a positive impact in young lives, the family elected to hold off awarding it and, instead, continued to make small contributions to it, as they could, in hopes of growing The Ron Porter ‘Strong’ Scholarship fund to the 10k endowment level. Once it reaches the endowment level it will continue to be awarded every year to a student(s) in need. Making a long-term impact for future students in Fremont County, specifically for students who may need a hand up, second chance, or a coach/mentor who believes in the underdog. No one believed more in the underdog and second chances than Coach! And it is NOT just for athletes—it’s for ANY student who needs a fighting chance, to make a positive change.
Currently, just over 4k has been donated to CWC in Coach’s name! We are incredibly grateful for all who have already generously donated, but TODAY marks a day where a little bit can go a LONG way!! TODAY, Wednesday, July 13 is WyoGives Day. For every dollar donated, two are also given—meaning a $25 donation becomes $75!! Every single donation, up to $1000, will be matched at CWC!
The CWC Foundation (scholarship program) is one of many organizations who stand to benefit immensely from these donations tomorrow, and Coach Porter’s scholarship will hopefully be one, too!
We wanted to share this incredible opportunity, not only for Coach’s scholarship, but for the countless other worthy causes. TODAY would be a great day to give to any participating Wyoming non-profit!
If by chance anyone wants to make a small contribution to Porter’s scholarship, please be sure to email [email protected] with your name, amount, and “Donation for The Ron Porter ‘Strong’ Scholarship,” after donating to the CWC foundation from the following link.
There are so many other wonderful ways to give back and organizations who will benefit from today, as well. Let’s go to work!

We would be amiss if we didn’t take a moment today to honor and celebrate the life of an incredible woman. One who inspired us through her quiet bravery and unwavering commitment to battle, despite the odds and opposition, Roberta Miller. She influenced so many, Coach Porter being one of those who was moved by her strength, as she genuinely embodied what came to be known as the “Fight Like a Wolverine” spirit.
Roberta was a fixture in the Riverton community, school district, and Wolverine gym for years, and countless games and events—always cheering on and supporting the youth. When she wasn’t there in person, she was always there in spirit. We have no doubt she and Coach Porter will be watching the Wolverines with the best seats in the house, and will continue to inspire others to “Fight Like a Wolverine” for years to come. Please keep Roberta’s family and friends in your prayers.

This past weekend we had the opportunity to attend the Wyoming Coaches Association Awards Banquet with some of the most incredible coaches, officials, admins, and athletic supporters from around the state. The WCA honored Coach Porter with a 2021 Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Award for his contributions that spanned several decades and across many sports and programs. While we are certain he would have been honored, humbled and slightly embarrassed to be recognized—we know it is well-deserved. The countless hours he invested in youth sports and programs in Riverton and around the state has not gone unnoticed. While it may not have been listed on a state championship banner or stat sheet, his dedication to and influence on so many lives transcends beyond what he ever probably realized.
We miss him everyday—and his witty and profound words.
Thank you to the Wyoming Coaches Association for recognizing and honoring his contributions, and thank you to all of those who continue to give to the youth programs in Wyoming!
