Shout out to Dax, today's Sabertooth Spotlight! Dax was nominated by Mrs. Rollins, our PE teacher. She says, "Dax has been amazing in PE! He's been a good teammate, had a cheerful attitude, very thoughtful, and goes above and beyond with helping to clean up equipment. You are on fire! Thanks Dax!"

Our Magic Maker of the Week is our incredible 1st/3rd grade teacher, Mr. Wang! Xiqiang Wang has taken on the herculean task of piloting a new DLI model while juggling two curriculums, and he is doing an incredible job! His classroom management is masterful, and he makes learning fun with activities like leaf art and exploding watermelons. His students adore him, and I have it on good authority that at least one especially loves how "smiley" he is!
He makes Chinese exciting while pushing his students to some of the highest beginning-of-year first grade mastery I've ever seen. His impact extends beyond Southland as he spends extra time developing Chinese curriculum for classrooms across the district. Xiqiang is truly a rockstar!

Our Sabertooth Spotlight goes to two students today! Lennon and Hannalee are in Mrs. Magaña's class and were nominated because, "Hannalee and Lennon were caught picking up trash all over the playground during recess. Thanks for keeping our school grouds clean!" We are so proud to have such amazing leaders at Southland.
