Its just about halfway through my 14th year of sobriety, and I just got a message from my education advisor that I'll be getting the Presidential Scholarship for my upcoming OT program. Im honestly in shock, yes, even after almost 14 years, because I was the teenager who struggled through middle and high school, I went to 4 different high schools, was failing, dropped out for a while and graduated by the skin of my teeth, and now here I am, getting scholarships for my academic achievements. This is exactly why I constantly tell people who are struggling with addiction/staying sober that Im not special. I just made the decision to take action toward a better life. One where Im proud of myself for who I do my best to be everyday. If I can do it, so can anyone. Im just extremely grateful I survived all the horrific s**t I experienced back then, and earlier on in sobriety, to get to this point. I feel really honored (no pun intended) to be recognized in this way for my diligence in my education. Thank you universe 🙏🏻
