Compromise rarely looks like rebellion at first.
It looks like one small detour… then another… until you’re nowhere near where God told you to be.

Stay in the Word. Stay close to Jesus. Stay in community.

The path matters. So do the people walking it with you.

“As [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV).

Real, lasting change doesn’t happen from quick morning devotions out of guilt. It happens when we soak in God’s Word so deeply that it becomes the filter for everything else—psychology, culture, self-help, all of it. It’s like putting a layer of protection on our hearts and minds.

The Word of God should reshape everything—our priorities, time and resources, what we watch, read, listen to, and even what we hope and dream for our kids. Christianity isn’t an add-on to our “real life.” It becomes our whole horizon.

Protect your mind. What fills your head shapes who you become. Fill it with Scripture, commentaries, books, or studies that make you focus on God in every area of life. Let it become your delight. For as you think, so are you.

So who will you become?

Studying the book of Judges for next week reminded me that spiritual drift rarely happens all at once.

Israel had seen God do the impossible. They had watched Him deliver them, provide for them, and give them the Promised Land.

And YET they began compromising in the places where obedience felt inconvenient.

Sound familiar?

We can trust God with heaven and still struggle to trust Him with our calendar, our money, our relationships, our children, our future.

Spiritual drift often begins with a small loss of confidence in a very big God.

John 21:22 — “What is that to you? You follow Me.”

Jesus is essentially saying to Simon Peter: Stop wondering and looking at what I’m doing with someone else.
Follow Me.

“Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else” (Galatians 6:4 NLT).

I wish more young women understood this earlier in life:

You do not need to become someone else to be valuable.

You do not need to keep up to be worthy.

You do not need the world’s applause to walk in God’s favor.

Psalm 139 says you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (verse 14). You weren’t an accident. You weren’t just “thrown together.” You were designed with intention. God made you purposefully and wonderfully—your gifts, your story, your personality, even the quiet things no one else notices. He designed you specifically for the purpose He chose for you.

God never asked you to be anybody else. He simply asked you to walk faithfully in the life He gave you.

When God promises us something, it’s easy to wait at first. We say, “I trust You!” and press on, knowing He’ll make it happen in His time. But as time passes and our subconscious expectations aren’t met, we get frustrated and begin to doubt.

Maybe you expected to be married by 25, have children before 30, or see your career launch by the time you were 50. Somewhere deep within us, we tend to have what I’d call our “ideal timeline.” And when that timeline isn’t met, do we still trust that God will do it?

In Scripture, Abraham and Sarah had several delays. From God’s first promise of a son to the time Isaac was actually born was twenty-five years! When God told them they’d have a child by the following year (see Genesis 18), Sarah actually laughed because it seemed so ridiculous. After all, she was 90 years old by then!

At some point, I imagine they figured the promise would never happen. In fact, they even strayed from God’s plan to make things happen in their own way (and dealt with the repercussions from their actions). Even though they had heard from the Lord, enough time had passed that it seemed impossible.

What impossible promises has God handed you? What have you been waiting for? Are you still faithfully waiting, or have you given up, frustrated because your expectations weren’t met?

Take Abraham and Sarah’s story as a reminder that God works through the impossible. His ways are so much greater than our own expectations!

Perhaps He’s inviting you to set aside your own timeline today and trust Him again. Perhaps He’s calling you to dance through each year by His side, letting go of your disappointment and frustration.
His timing is perfect. And His promises will never fail!
