Please find a Community Alert regarding an alleged threat of school violence. Thank you Chief Gonzalez and Public Information Officer Ryan J. Railsback.
COMMUNITY ALERT - SOCIAL MEDIA THREATS OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE
Earlier today, we received several calls to our police department regarding a concerning video and comments posted to social media of an alleged threat of school violence by a student attending Hillcrest High School in Riverside. Riverside Police Officers began an investigation and the county’s S.T.A.R. (School Threats Assessment & Response) protocol was initiated. Because the origin of this social media post was unknown, the School Resource Officer was brought in to assist in the investigation. Since then and in collaboration with school staff and the Alvord Unified School District, the person who made the social media post has been identified as an 18-year-old male student who attends the school. The student has been arrested.
At this point in the investigation, there is no threat to our school community. But out of an abundance of caution, additional police resources will be available in the Alvord Unified School District throughout the day.
"We appreciate the thoroughness of the investigation and the swift action taken by our law enforcement partners in Riverside,” stated Alvord Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Allan Mucerino. Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez added, “we are thankful to those who came forward and reported what they saw on social media to our police department.”
If you SEE SOMETHING suspicious or concerning online or on social media, please do not be afraid to SAY SOMETHING. Together we can help keep our school communities safe.
