PEARLL is closing.

The federal grant program that has supported PEARLL since 2018, along with many other worthy programs, has been defunded for the current cycle and seems unlikely to receive funding again soon. Therefore, unfortunately, PEARLL needs to close.

We appreciate all of you who have trusted us to offer you professional development, program reviews, and resources. Special thanks to the wonderful educators who have partnered with us on projects and who have served on our advisory board.

The PEARLL website (pearll.nflc.umd.edu) and resources will remain available for a period of time.

Funding from the U.S. Department of Education that supports PEARLL at the University of Maryland has not yet been released. Without it, valuable resources and programs for language educators across the nation are at risk.

Earlier this month, educators from around the world joined us for “Not Just Words," led by the amazing Rebecca Blouwolff. We explored how to make vocabulary instruction stick—by connecting it to context, meaning, and authentic use.

We loved learning with — and from — this incredible group of EPIC leaders at the PEARLL Leadership Academy.

We discussed.
We laughed.

We read. We role-played. We reflected.
We asked big questions.
We got honest.
We grew.

Together, we explored what it means to lead with purpose, with clarity, and with a deep commitment to supporting teachers. Thank you for showing up with your full selves — and for reminding us that leadership, like teaching, is always a work in progress.
