Do you miss playing in a band? Join Triton College's Community Band!
We will meet Mondays 6-7:45 p.m., at Triton College, Room J-205, beginning Sept. 8, 2025. We welcome all skill levels although members must have previous high school band experience or equivalent.

Participation is free and open to adults and high school students. Auditions are required. Participants under 18 will require a signed permission slip.

Register for MUS 179 today and study classical, jazz, or rock guitar with accomplished guitarist Bob Sherman at Triton. All skill levels can register. Lessons start this week!

In addition to teaching at Roosevelt University, Triton College, and Dominican University, Bob Sherman serves as Guitar Department Chair at the Merit School of Music. He also teaches at his private studio in Oak Park. He studied classical and jazz guitar and jazz at Indiana University and is honored to have shared the studio and stage with many wonderful musicians and continues to perform as a soloist and in various ensembles in the Chicago area. He lives with his wife and three children in Oak Park.

Register for MUS 179 today and study drums and percussion with accomplished percussionist Kyle Flens at Triton. Lessons start week of September 3rd. All levels including beginner are welcome for all of our applied music courses.

Kyle Flens, (b.1991, Baltimore, MD), is a percussionist and drummer. Based in Chicago, IL, he is a member of the chamber music collective Ensemble Dal Niente, one half of the Flannau Duo, and a collaborator with the interdisciplinary percussion group Beyond This Point. Kyle enjoys performing many different genres of music. His mallet playing in ensemble work has been praised by critics, sounding "like the right pinch of seasoning on a good meal" (Hyde Park Herald). This variety of playing styles has led to concerts all across the Western Hemisphere. Kyle also enjoys teaching and talking about all sorts of music. He is on faculty at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois. Kyle received his Master of Music with a Performer’s Certificate from Northern Illinois University and his Bachelor of Music from Towson University as a Presser Scholar. He studied with Gregory Beyer, Patrick Roulet, and Michelle Humphreys.

Register for MUS 179 today and study trumpet or brass improvisation with accomplished trumpeter James Davis at Triton. Lessons start week of September 3rd.

James Davis, a Chicago trumpeter and music maker, enjoys exploring a wide array of musical environments. As a composer, improviser, and educator he is involved in a diverse blend of musical communities in the Chicagoland area.

In addition to leading his own groups, James has also recently collaborated and/or recorded with Matt Ulery, The Metropolitan Jazz Octet, The Heritage Jazz Orchestra, and The New Standard Jazz Orchestra. James’ playing has been heard at venues around the world including The Kennedy Center, The Montreux, North Sea, and Montreal Jazz Festivals. James has earned recognition as a finalist both in the 2004 ITG Jazz Improvisation Competition and the 2007 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition and has completed degrees at the University of Texas at Arlington, and at the University of North Texas. At UNT, James had the opportunity to tour and record with the Grammy nominated One O’clock Lab Band and the UNT Wind Symphony.

James’ playing and compositions are featured on his group Beveled’s newest release Remain Calm as well as his previous releases Disappearing Roads (2018), Beveled (2014), and Angles of Refraction (2009), among others. He is currently on faculty at Triton College, Wheaton College, and Harold Washington College.

Register for MUS 179 today and study saxophone or clarinet with accomplished Chicago saxophonist, Alex Beltran at Triton. Lessons start week of September 3rd.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Alex Beltran has been called “a saxophonist of impeccable musicianship” by Chicago Jazz Magazine. Alex has quickly made himself an active member of the music scene in the city and around the country. His group Merge has released 2 albums of original music and has received praise from musicians and critics alike. His debut solo album, Rift, was released by Calligram Records in March 2024. Alex has performed in both large and small venues across the country, under his own name and with people such as Jeff Hamilton, Phil Woods, Tim Ries, Ira Sullivan, Luis Bonilla, John Fedchok, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, the Chicago Yestet, and many others. In addition to his busy performing schedule, Alex is proud to be a Vandoren Performing Artist and maintains an active teaching schedule, helping a younger generation discover the beauty of music.
