It is widely believed that the Liberty Bell was rung to mark the adoption of the Declaration of Independence , July 8, 1776.

The 2,080-pound bronze bell bears the inscription, "Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof Lev. XXV X

By Order of the ASSEMBLY of the Province of PENSYLVANIA [sic] for the State House in Philada”

Upward Bound students visited Historic Fort Snelling today, where they looked at primary sources and artefacts to learn about the history of Fort Snelling and the surrounding area. The students engaged with experts on site to learn about what life was like at the fort throughout the years it was in operation. Some students even assisted with a military demonstration (the photos of the students in the field). It was a great and highly informative visit!

We had a great time visiting with Upward Bound students yesterday! We introduced them to academic libraries and archives and did some fun activities including a scavenger hunt and reimagining artifacts from pioneer times!
