Parents can help little ones build emotional awareness by naming feelings throughout the day: “You look frustrated,” or “She looks happy!” Helping preschoolers recognize and name emotions builds the foundation for understanding themselves and others—and eventually learning how to manage those big feelings.

Before we can learn to regulate our emotions, we first have to learn to recognize & name them. In preschool, we're practicing identifying how we feel, putting words to those feelings, and learning that every emotion is okay.

Centers at the beginning of the year are filled with bigger, easy to use materials that are open ended. This allows for the kids to begin learning how to play with others instead of having to follow specific directions. We also practice Being Responsible (one of our rules) by cleaning up!

The first weeks of preschool are all about learning to follow a routine and our class rules. We keep it simple with 3 rules: Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Responsible (Make Good Choices). We learn, model, and practice what each rule means then celebrate when they are followed!
