Mrs. Criswell and some of our 7th grade students put their math skills to work with a hands-on LEGO Architecture Challenge!

Students became architects as they designed and built their own structures while applying real-world math skills. They used a scale of 1 LEGO stud = 2 feet, created rectangular footprints, calculated actual dimensions, perimeter, and area, and combined sections to determine the total area of their designs.

They even had to think like real builders by working within a $300 budget, calculating the cost of their LEGO bricks and determining how much money they had left! 💵

Activities like this give students an opportunity to build, calculate, problem-solve, and think critically while seeing how math connects to the real world.

🧱 + 📐 + 💰 = Math in Action!

Today in Miss Hall’s class, we continued reviewing expanded, standard, and word form with whole numbers and decimals!

To practice, students drew two problems written in expanded form from a bucket and converted each one into standard form and word form to write on a check!

This allowed us to learn how to write checks while using and reviewing the skills we’ve been practicing!

6th grade students had a great time in science today! They enjoyed examining plant and animal cells. It was many of our students first time to experience using a microscope!

The students took the lead in Mrs. Shappley’s class! ✏️

Our students got to be the teachers for the day and take over the board to teach their classmates how to divide fractions. We loved seeing them step up, explain their thinking, and show what they know!

Way to go, Tigers! 🖤💛
