Another outstanding Women's Self-Defense Seminar in Rio Rancho!
We welcomed both returning participants and first-timers, and once again it was amazing to watch confidence grow in real time.
One participant shared a concern about being grabbed from behind in a bear hug—a very real fear for many women.
Fortunately, that's a defense Senior Master Hank has been teaching for decades and is a key part of this course.
Within minutes, the ladies were successfully escaping bear hugs and discovering just how capable they truly are.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, worked hard, and supported one another.
Stay tuned for our next Women's Self-Defense Seminar at The HUB in Enchanted Hills, Rio Rancho, NM.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Today’s class was a reminder that real-world self-defense doesn’t happen in perfect conditions inside an air-conditioned dojo/dojang.
We took our training outside and embraced the elements — blazing sun, rain (yes rain AND sun at the same time - this IS NM LOL), strong winds, uneven ground, slippery grass that made pivoting difficult, and restrictive clothing that forced everyone to adapt.
That’s the point.
Real confrontations don’t happen on smooth mats with ideal footing.
They happen in parking lots, parks, sidewalks, and unpredictable environments.
Today, our students learned to push through discomfort, fatigue, and environmental challenges while building cardio, muscle strength, mental toughness, and adaptability.
We also focused on “iron arm” training — learning how to block a real punch with a real block using greater power and conditioning.
It’s not about looking flashy. It’s about preparing the body and mind for realistic impact and pressure.
Proud of this group for showing grit, resilience, and the warrior mindset today.
Rain or shine… we train. 💪🥋
See us at the HUB Rec Center in Enchanted Hills Mon, Tues, Thurs 5:30 - 6:30 pm.

At our recent Level 3 (Advanced) Women’s Self-Defense Seminar, Black Belt Team Master Hank and Instructor Hellen taught participants how everyday items can become lifesaving improvised weapons in a real-world encounter.
A soda bottle, lipstick case, cell phone — even a Sharpie — can help create an opportunity to escape and survive against a larger, stronger assailant. The key is mindset, awareness, and learning how to use the tools already around you.
The next Rio Rancho Women’s Self-Defense Seminar (Level 1 & 2) is Saturday, May 30th from 9 a.m. - Noon at the HUB Rec Center in Enchanted Hills.
💥 Women ages 12 and up
💥 $30/person

Black belt team Master Hank and Instructor Hellen add another outstanding Level 3 (Advanced) Women’s Self-Defense Seminar to the books!
These incredible women have already completed multiple Level 1 and Level 2 seminars, and in this advanced class, Senior Master Hank and Instructor Hellen turned the pressure up another level — teaching participants how to defend themselves against a very determined assailant attempting grabs, chokes, and even ground attacks, as pictured.
Our trauma-informed “crawl, walk, run” training method — developed and refined by Master Hank over more than two decades — helps women progressively build confidence, skill, and resilience in a safe, positive, and empowering environment.
We emphasize awareness, recognizing and setting boundaries, and learning that they are far more capable than they may realize.
The most rewarding comment at the end of this class:
“Wow. I really feel empowered! I really got him off me!”
This after a drill where the "assailant," played by Master Hank, "attacks" a participant who volunteered to be pressure tested, and was able to dispatch him using the techniques taught.
Our next Level 1 and 2 Women’s Self-Defense Seminar in Rio Rancho is Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to Noon.
Ages 12 and up • $30 per person

Last night's training was all about adapting to chaos and unpredictability.
Instead of rehearsed, scripted techniques where both the attacker and defender already know what’s coming, our students worked spontaneous defense drills against a variety of attacks from both in front, behind and even on the ground.
No warnings. No choreography.
Just real-time decision making under pressure.
The goal was simple: teach students how to think, react, adapt, and overcome in unpredictable situations — because real-world self-defense doesn’t come with a script.
We also constantly rotate partners, often pairing larger attackers with smaller defenders, helping students learn timing, positioning, awareness, and confidence against different body types and energy levels.
Judging by all the smiles and laughter, everyone had an absolute blast while learning valuable skills at the same time!
This is what practical self-defense training is all about.
Reality based. No rules. No referees. No second chances.
Train hard. Stay aware. Build confidence. 💪🥋
Mon, Tues and Thurs from 5:30 - 6:30 at the HUB Rec Center in Enchanted Hills.

There’s something special about a room full of seniors who refuse to be seen as “easy targets.”
Today at First Baptist Church of Santa Fe, our 55+ Senior Self-Defense Seminar was an incredible success.
Senior Master Hank and Instructor Hellen had the honor of working with a motivated, engaged group who showed that awareness, attitude, and a few simple skills can go a long way—at any age.
They focused on real-world, practical self-defense, adapting every technique to account for mobility, balance, and strength differences.
Because self-defense isn’t about athleticism—it’s about making smart decisions, creating opportunities, and protecting yourself with what you have.
From situational awareness to easy-to-learn escapes and boundary-setting, these students proved three things loud and clear:
👉 You are never too old to learn how to protect yourself.
👉 You are never too old to build confidence.
👉 You are never too old to take control of your personal safety.
And let’s be honest—seniors are one of the most fun, spirited groups to work with!
The energy, the laughter, and the determination in that room made today truly memorable.
Thank you to First Baptist Church of Santa Fe for hosting, and to every participant who showed up ready to learn and grow.
Learn to live aware. Enforce your boundaries. Stay safe.
