The Mighty Bobcat Band is heading home after an amazing trip to Dallas, TX. Today our students shopped at Grapevine Mills and had an immersive art experience at Meow Wolf!

***ATSSB OPS 2026 Region Results***
The Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Outstanding Performance Series (OPS) is a prestigious statewide concert band competition for smaller Texas school districts (1A–4A). Bands submit recordings and are judged against other schools within their classification. Top groups earn the right to “Advance to Area” and continue competing toward the State level!
The Rio Hondo Band Department had an outstanding showing with entries from Rio Hondo Middle School and Rio Hondo High School P-Tech bands placing at the top of our region and advancing to Area!

***Senior Spotlight: Jared Limon***
I'm Jared Limon. I have been in band since 6th grade and have been in marching band since 8th. I play percussion. In middle school, I was in front ensemble playing in the pit. I was a tenor guy all four years of high school. In 2023, the Mighty Bobcat Band appeared at the State Marching Contest. In 2025, I received a 1 at S&E regional and advanced to State S&E. I am hoping to do better this weekend at this years State S&E contest. After high school, I will attend UTSA to pursue a Criminal Justice degree.

***Senior Spotlight: Karyme Garcia***
Karyme has played Trumpet for 3 years since 6th grade, then switching to French Horn her freshman year. Also made an appearance with the Mighty Bobcat Band at the State Marching Contest. Karyme is a member of Upward Bound, the Chess program, National Honors Society, and The RHHS Mentors program. After graduating Karyme plans on attending Texas Southmost Collage to pursue Radiologic Technology for two years, to then transfer to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to continue for a bachelors and become an X-Ray Technician.

***Senior Spotlight: Angel Flores***
Angel Flores has been a dedicated member of the band program for 7 years, performing on euphonium. Throughout his band career, Angel advanced to ATSSB Area for All-Region, earned a spot in the All-Region Band, and qualified for State Solo & Ensemble 3 times, twice with an ensemble/quartet and once with a solo performance. During the 2023-2024 season, he was also a member of the State Marching Band. He has also been part of a program that earned Sweepstakes in Concert Band and Sight Reading for two consecutive years. Under the direction of Mr. Cantu and Mr. Libson, Angel continued to grow as both a musician and leader. Outside of band, Angel will graduate with his Associate’s degree and plans to continue his musical journey with the UTRGV Vaquero Band while majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

***Senior Spotlight: Kloe Cavazos***
I have been in color guard for 3 years and lieutenant as one and also made an appearance with the band at the state marching contest. I am a 2x regional powerlifting qualifier, NHS member, and apart of the tennis team. My plans after graduating are to study biology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to hopefully become a future pharmacist.

Mighty Bobcat Band and Rio Hondo Bobcat Choirs State Solo & Ensemble qualifiers had a great evening of fun at Cidercade Austin! Tomorrow our combined 18 students will compete for a shot at a Division 1 gold medal. Good luck to all!
